Description
This is an open modern loft style home, bright and sunny with lots of Arizona sunshine and fresh air. It has a loft style bedroom up stairs with a comfortable queen sized bed. The back room has two 8 foot tall windows facing west which can let the sun shine in all winter long or you can watch monsoon type thunderstorms form in the months of July and August as our summer rains come to this desert valley. Experience open loft style of living and see how you feel after a week in the Highland loft. The space My brother, sister and I designed and built this space in 2008. Being a photographer and artist one of my main design goals was how light would move through the building during the day. The desert is a bold place to live and many people who visit the Southwest comment on the quality and brilliance of light. We wanted to take design concepts based on this southwest desert experience of bold light and brilliant color and incorporate them into this building. A two-story cement block building with colored concrete floors, our bold orange walls emulate our breathtaking summer monsoon skies mixed with a calming grey color scheme. An industrial steel tread-plate and Glulam beam staircase, which my brother built will take you up stairs to a comfortable Queen sized bed, there is also a desk up there for writing your memoirs. The bathroom and shower is tiled with recycled glass tiles in ocean blue blend and has a full size bathtub. Windows facing east and west, which allow that Arizona sunshine to filter through the building during the day. Downstairs we have an old Grundig counsel radio that's tuned into KXCI community radio you can listen in to local Tucson musicians or just figure out whats happening in this town. Connect your laptop to the TV and stream your favorite shows or watch one of our many classic DVDs. If you are here to take it down a notch, our guests have mentioned they like our selection of eclectic books. Outside the loft in front we have a Mesquite tree lined sidewalk and in the back we have fruit trees and other shade trees to keep it cool in the summer, you are welcome to grab a tasty Tangelo, Blood Orange or Lemmon when they are in season (January February). We know you did not come to Arizona to watch TV so get your hat, sunscreen, a bottle of water and start enjoying all that this desert has to offer. We are located south of the University of Arizona on the edge of downtown Tucson, so put your walking shoes on, it's a 20 minute walk to 4th Avenue and Congress Street where there are great new restaurants, and places to listen to live music, or you can use one of our three bikes to head out and explore the quirky neighborhoods around downtown. We will be updating some of the furniture and artwork in the next six months and hope to ad a pullout sleeper sofa to the front room and a four person dinner table in the back so expect some new photos of the loft soon. The three of us spend three hours prepping the loft for your arrival so you can expect a really clean uncluttered space with soft bedding and fluffy towels. The kitchen has what you need to prepare meals and a full size washer and dryer when you need to do your laundry. Guest access You have access to the entire loft space although no smoking or pets allowed inside. We have three bikes are free to use, we have a lock and pump and one of the bikes has bags. If you plan on riding a lot bring your helmet and gloves and watch out for the Modern Street Car Tracks they will wipe you out! We have an outdoor area with shade trees, a glass table and six chairs, one guest had their Thanksgiving diner out there with a big group of family. We have a parking lot in back where you can park overnight although you can also park directly in front of the loft its about 15 feet to the front door.
