Bed and breakfast in Front Royal
Description
Annie's Room is on the 2nd floor of the fully restored 1847 historic Main House. Features include a poster bed (circa 1840), a daybed w/trundle, 2 closets, dresser, upholstered chairs, beautiful rug centered on newly refinished heart pine floor, private bathroom. From upstairs, you can see the sun set, "with its broad bright face sinking behind the mountain... lighting up the clouds, and throwing back its reflection on our beautiful and much beloved Mountain Home". Annie Gardner June 30, 1862 The space Mountain Home is in the National Register of Historic Places, and the Virginia Landmarks Register. The main house was built by Samuel Gardner, a successful farmer, known for raising prized horses. Samuel Gardner and his first wife Sarah had 3 daughters, the oldest of which was Annie who was a teenager during the Civil War. During the summer of 1862, Annie kept a diary about what was happening on the farm. The home stayed in the Gardner-Waller family for 140 years before being sold. It passed through 2 other owners before Lisa and Scott Jenkins bought it in 2012 and restored it to be used as a B&B. We also operate a guest house called the Cabbin with additional listings on AirBnB. For before and after pictures of the (historically named) "Cabbin" and Main House, look for us at: Mountain Home in Front Royal. Guest access Other areas our guests can access include the parlor, sun room, upper and lower porches, patio, game room and dining room. During your stay We are resident at Mountain Home every night we are open for guests. We greet our guests when they arrive, answer any questions they may have, get their breakfast orders, provide hiking, and local activity suggestions. If needed, we shuttle them to and from town with suggestions on where to eat/shop/find necessary services. We also prepare and serve a hearty breakfast in the morning. We might even provide s'mores around a small outside fire pit on a given night :-). But if guests just want downtime to rest, read or recharge, that is fine, too. We have plenty of books and outdoor resources in the Cabbin and Main House for our guests. Other things to note If you are hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT), or just travelling light, you'll find hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, linens, blankets and towels, shampoo, creme rinse and soap, hair dryer, shaver, loaner clothes, laundry, WiFi, shuttles into town, breakfast, etc. During the summer months, when they are open, we can shuttle you to the 4H Center for a swim in their pool (their fees are about $5/day). Ask us about the swimming hole, waterfalls and nearby hikes and getting out on the river. Wineries, a meadery, a brewery and fine dining are just down the road.
