Your room in our charming 1881 gold-rush villa includes a queen and single bed, plus shared access to a bathroom with a claw-foot tub. Enjoy the full kitchen, dining and lounge areas, equipped with a woodstove and non-digital entertainment. Relax outdoors with hammocks, gardens and native bush—an ideal West Coast base for walking, cycling and exploring nature. Please note: a 2-night minimum applies in summer months. The space A cozy, character-filled retreat where vintage charm meets soulful living, it’s perfect for families, couples, or friends exploring the West Coast. Guided by eco-conscious, organic values, Greenstone Retreat is a sanctuary for like-minded travellers and gentle souls. Affordable stays make longer visits possible, with a unique sense of community and space to breathe. Many guests end up staying a little longer to enjoy yoga classes, massage sessions, and time off. Wake to birdsong, sleep deeply, and unwind under the stars. This is a place where time slows down and nature comes first: wander the gardens, nap in a hammock, share a cuppa in the outdoor kitchen and meet a few of the other guests if you wish to exchange travel stories., or stretch out in the sun. Greenstone Retreat is a space to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy simple pleasures with the people (and pets) you love. Explore lakes, rivers, beaches, and heritage gold-mining sites. You’re welcome to book massage or healing sessions (by appointment), attend yoga or breathwork in the studio (check the schedule), or simply soak up the stillness. The village playground, pub, and shop are also just a short walk away. Whether you want a base for adventure or deep rest, Greenstone Retreat meets you where you are. Guest access In addition to the shared kitchen, lounge, dining area and bathroom in the villa, you have access to: Wild, whimsical gardens with hammocks and picnic spots A collection of books, inviting you to unwind and switch off from screens BBQ area Shared undercover outdoor kitchen with hob, toaster, air fryer oven, microwave, BBQ, pots, pans, crockery & cutlery Fast Wi-Fi throughout Shared bathroom facilities The Den lounge room with board games and cosy seating The EVOLve yoga studio (extra cost, and when not in use for classes) Other things to note Massages must be booked in advance — just ask if you’d like to add one to your stay. No supermarket or ATM in Kumara — please stock up before you arrive (milk, food, cash, etc). Cash is needed for treatments, classes and food extras from the little shop or nearby baking stall. The petrol station in Kumara is currently NZ card only and has only diesel while they upgrade the site. Free-range eggs, veges, and basics often available onsite for purchase. Pets by prior arrangement only (not fenced, must be supervised and kept off furniture). This is a shared property — other guests may be camping or using the family rooms and outdoor kitchen. Many guests love meeting each other in the gardens and around the BBQ. TV-free zone to enhance your experience. The Wi-Fi is excellent throughout.
