Description

PLEASE READ FULL DESCRIPTION: Our Pumpkin Cottage is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the world. We offer guests an experience to disconnect from day-to-day stresses and reconnect with nature. This space has no AC, cell service, or wifi. Redwoods Bend offers a charming, camping experience. Yurts are comparable to large canvas tents, please join us prepared for the outdoors and ready to enjoy quality time in the woods. The space Redwoods Bend is off the grid, through the Redwoods, over a mountain and down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5-acre meadow, an orchard with peaches, pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath River on the Yurok reservation. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. DIRECTIONS TO REDWOODS BEND We recommend downloading offline maps on Google Maps. From Johnson Road forward you will no longer have cellphone service From Southern CA, Los Angeles: Go North on the 405 to I-5. After about 5 hours, take the 580 West toward San Francisco where you will hit the US-101. Continue North to Ukiah/Willits/Eureka/Arcata/Orick From Oakland Airport: - Take Hegenberger Rd North to 880 North to 80/580North, cross the Richmond/San Rafael bridge ($5), where you will hit the US-101. Continue North to Ukiah/Willits/Eureka/Arcata/Orick From San Francisco Airport: Take US#101 North to Ukiah/Willits/Eureka/Arcata/Orick NOTE: Fill up with gas in Arcata before you make the rest of the trip to Redwoods Bend. FROM THE US-101: Turn onto Bald Hill Road taking you toward the Lady Bird Johnson Grove. Bald Hill Road will take you eastward up the mountain. The road goes mostly uphill for the next 9 to 10 miles. There are a couple of scenic view sites on the right, where you might care to stop and check out the view. Sometimes we see Elk grazing in one of the highland meadows on the right. At about 9.5 miles, you will come to a Fire Station on your left. This is your turn for Johnson Road, you have about 13.5 miles to go from this point. STAY TO YOUR LEFT WHEN IN DOUBT. We are at 13065 Johnson Road. Stop at the mailbox at our gate and grab a map waiting for you showing you how to get to your reserved site. Guest access The Pumpkin Cottage has a full kitchen, full size bed with twin upstairs in the loft. The bathroom and showers are located down the hill in the yellow shower house. You are welcome to walk the meadow, down to the river, and to pick fruit from the orchard. If you want a camp host to help you pick fruit, we are happy to. We see lots of wildlife here at Redwoods Bend; silver foxes, bald eagles, a family of river otters just downstream, black tailed deer....the list goes on. We are surrounded by old trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when the clear cut all the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, the pine species and Pepper wood trees. Feel free to find and walk these trails, as well as the length of the Klamath River "beach". We have a couple of neighbors , so please be respectful of their space. The Yurok village across the river is known as "Johnsons" on the map, but the Yurok name for the village is 'Wautek'. Other things to note Redwoods Bend is more of a destination than a stopping off place. It's quite wild and beautiful and the closest store is an hour away. The closest town is Arcata, CA and that's about an hour and a half drive. We are off grid and use solar, or generator power to produce electricity. There is no cellphone access and only the camp hosts have wifi.
