Explore 9 private acres of elegant gardens, rolling lawns, meadows, and wooded paths, complete with an (unheated) private pool. This comfortable, sunny home has 3 bedrooms (one with a loft), a large living area featuring a new wood burning fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen. Enjoy complete seclusion at this little slice of paradise, which is at the end of a quiet dirt road, with no immediate neighbors, but only about 2 miles to shops and restaurants in town. Bedrooms and Baths: 1) Large master bedroom with king sized bed and ensuite bathroom. 2) Small bedroom with queen sized very comfortable futon bed/sofa. Some shelving but no closet or chest of drawers. 3) Small bedroom with full sized bed, chest of drawers and closet. Very sturdy ladder up to secure full-height loft area with 2 firm twin mattresses. All bedrooms have window air conditioners. The small bedrooms are next to a full bathroom. These two bedrooms and the bathroom can be separated from the more public living and dining areas by an additional door, providing some additional privacy and quiet. Kitchen: Well equipped and functional, as this is our second home and we love to cook. The kitchen is not high end, and has a few quirks we should point out. The wooden kitchen counter needs to be kept dry; it stains easily if you leave wet dishes on it so please dry your pots, pans and dishes and put them away. In addition, the stove can be annoying to light; feel free to use a match rather than waiting for the burners to light automatically. Dining: The kitchen and living rooms connect to the dining room, making for easy entertaining. The dining room includes a table that is set up to seat 8. Please keep the table covered with a tablecloth; additional tablecloths are in the cupboard. Please use coasters and hot pads to protect this and other surfaces throughout the house. High speed internet, which does get interrupted at times. The home, the grounds and the pool are all private - not shared Later The house is about 2 miles outside the village of Chatham. Chatham's many attractions include Supersoul Yoga, the Crandell Movie Theatre, Bimi's Cheese Shop, and the Chatham Brewery. The village has numerous restaurants, cafes, and small shops, is charming and eminently walkable. If you are interested in the outdoors, there are several public tennis courts within easy drive (2-10 minutes) of the house. There are also several pleasant hikes nearby including at Borden Pond and the Ooms Conservation Area. In winter, the Catamount Ski Area usually has about 35 downhill runs open. In summer, Catamount converts into an aerial adventure park. Chatham and its environs host a lively arts scene. You can visit Art Omi, a sculpture park about 15 minutes drive from the house which is home to amazing, monumental outdoor art. If antiques are your jam, visit Hudson which is a 30 minute drive away, and have a meal at one of the great restaurants there (we love the high-end Oak pizzeria / wine bar). For live dance, theater and music, try PS21, about 10 minutes drive from the house. Tanglewood is about 1/2 an hour away. Once you've built up an appetite swimming, hiking or antiquing, there are several excellent places to eat nearby. The Bartlett House Bakery and Cafe in Ghent, NY (15 minutes drive) makes some of the best baked goods we've ever had; don't leave without trying the twice baked pistachio croissant. The delights at Bimi's Cheese Shop in Chatham Village are to die for. We also love a nice dinner, especially the salmon, at the Blue Plate, right in town. Not quite in the neighborhood, but New York City is 2 1/2 hour drive away. You can also take an Amtrak train from Penn Station to Hudson, NY, and take a $25 taxi from there if you don’t want to drive. NYC is 2.5 -3 hour drive away (with no traffic). You can also take an Amtrak train into Penn Station from Hudson, NY. A taxi from Hudson is about $25. The house is close to the Taconic Parkway, which offers a beautiful drive from New York City, particularly when trees are changing colors in the Autumn. COVID 19 update: The local supermarket, PriceChopper, delivers through Instacart. A few good restaurants to get pick up from include Chatham Brewery, which offers food and beer, and Nonne, which has pizza, pasta and other Italian options including some that are gluten free. Our Daily Bread offers pick up of baked goods (some gluten free), groceries, deli items, beer, and more.
