The Guest House of Hillcroft, an historical estate
This is a cozy log cabin furnished with antiques but equipped with modern conveniences and located on the property of a historical estate in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The front porch over looks the main house, Hillcroft circa 1740, and the back porch is private surround by woods. The main floor has a living room, eat in kitchen, laundry facilities, bedroom with a queen bed, and a full bathroom with shower. There are steep, loft type steps that go upstairs to a bedroom with two twin beds and a half bath, but there is a door to that bedroom The entire Guest House is yours and there is parking available for a couple of cars. You are welcome to walk the grounds which includes a formal garden, and a trail through the woods to the Rangeley family graveyard. The Rangeleys migrated from Main to get away from the cold climate, settled here, and ran the corner store. My family has owned the property since the 1960s I'm available for questions and suggestions of where to eat and things to do. I usually meet the guest, but if I'm away, I always respond quickly via texting. The property is secluded, though the Guest House and the main house are close to each other. Hillcroft is less than a mile from Hwy 220, 2.5 miles from a major grocery store and very close to a small corner store/grill/gas. A Dollar General is a quarter mile away. There is no public transportation or UBER services available. I would not recommend biking on the country roads, but there are plenty of trails close by that accommodate hiking, and mountain/paved biking. The Smith River is close by. . The Wi-Fi, pw: edgerton. The Wi-Fi connection is strong and the speed is average. It is enough for basic services but may not be strong enough for high level gaming or multiple streaming. *The Guesthouse shares a driveway with the main house, but has its own parking area. The front porch faces the side of the main house, and the back porch faces the woods. Guests are welcome to walk the estate grounds of Hillcroft. *Coffee is supplied. *We enjoy occasionally eating breakfast or lunch at the corner store and grill that is within walking distance of the home. *As of April 2018, the bathroom on the main floor has been completely remodeled, and the main floor's carpet has been replaced with a wood vinyl floor and rugs. *The home is pet friendly and there are pets on the property. *Hamlet Vineyards, hiking trails (mountain and river side), the Smith River (brown trout fishing and kayaking), and a high school (track, tennis courts, ball fields) are within a couple miles of The Guest House. *The cities of Collinsville and Martinsville (museums, restaurants, shopping) are within five miles.
