"Ship Shape": waterfront, cozy studio- downtown
Description
Located in a historic 200 year old building "Ship Shape" is close to downtown but on a quiet tree-lined residential street. It is just one block to the library, bookstore, post office and all the lovely shops. It is on the shore of the Damariscotta River with wonderful views from inside and out.. You’ll love my place because of the neighborhood, the light, the outdoor space, and the comfortable bed. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. The space The building originally was the schoolhouse in Sheepscot, which is a village is Newcastle, across the river from Damariscotta. It was moved to its current location & expanded in the 1950's when it began to house the Christian Science Church. In 2011, Grace, the current owner bought & totally renovated the building which became the home of her restaurant "Savory Maine" and 2 apartments. "Ship Shape" is located in what was formerly the office of the church. It served as the home for one of Savory Maine's cooks for 5 1/2 years and then became an AirBNB. The restaurant closed in 2022. The former restaurant spaces were converted to 2 additional apartments. The only wall that is shared with another apartment is the back of the shower. Because the studio faces south- away from downtown- it is very quiet even though it is just a block from Main Street. The apartment is cozy and is furnished with antiques. Cozy is another word for small. If you need a lot of space to spread out this is not the place for you. There are high ceilings and windows on 3 sides, making the space seem larger than it is. It is light filled and there are wonderful views of the Damariscotta River. There is a small kitchen area with a stove & oven, refrigerator & sink. It is well equipped with cookware, small appliances & dishes. Boaters are welcome if they want to spend some time on land. The studio is a very short walk to the town landing. The bus stop is one block away. A car is not needed to visit this wonderful town. Beach chairs and towels and provided. Off street parking is provided. Guest access Guests have the use of the side yard with a table and chairs and a great view of the Damariscotta River. They may also use the picnic table.
