DAR EL EDEN HOUSE is an old 18th century swahili house carefully restaured and expanded in 2009 This coral stone house maintains its original swahili architecture with local traditional materials and tadelakt plaster technique used in Marocco. Original 3,5 m ceilings and walls are decorated with carved niches , freezes and alcoves . The 4 levels home with swimming pool ,5 bedrooms suiting up for 12 persons includes a 360 degrees panoramic view on the city and ocean on third floor. The space 5 in suite bedrooms [ minimum 25 m2] on 3 different levels with hot water powered by solar panels and large bathrooms [ 7 - 10 m2] , including ceilings fans and mosquitos nets . Handcrafted swahili beds and furnitures made by local artisans , including new matresses and european linens . Ideal for several couples and large families with bedrooms , kitchenettes , terraces and cushionned sitting areas in 3 different levels facilitating relaxing , calm and privacy. The construction is taking into account cooling and wind circulation , all rooms and bed rooms have at least 2 sides air openings to capture air breeze . The decoration is inspired by local swahili, african and arabic cultural elements including historical east african maps and arabic calligraphies. Ground floor : visitors reception area ,pool , cinema lounge ,kitchenette and one full bed room First floor : open terrace , main kitchen , double dinning room , saloon , chicha lounge , one full bed room Second floor : one queen bed room , one king bed room including also a single bed , one king bed room with mezzanine including another full bed , private open or covered terraces for each bedrooms . Third floor : a 110 m2 top roof terrace with 2 levels : one with makuti tatched roof including kitchenette , hanging and swinging beds and various cushionned areas , another one with open air discreet area for sun bathing . Wifi and chichas on request . Cinema lounge with dvd player , english and french library International movies dvds and east african travel books available on request. The main kitchen on first floor is self catered , including a gaz cooker , oven , a large freeze with freezer independant part , micro wave mini grill and all ustensiles including mixer , blender , coffee maker , yogourt maker ice cream maker... in the fourth floor terrace a bbq grill and a tandoori oven are available for meat and fish lovers . Guest access .All parts of the house are accessible except the storage area . .Self catering but including our house keeper Mbogo who is available for meals cooking and shopping with expenditures record when available . .A second house keeper will be included with a minimum of 7 guests in the house . .Meals can be served on the first floor dining room or on the top roof terrace. Other things to note the house must be rented for 4 days minimum during the christmas / new year period in high season [december 22th to january 6th]
