Description
The Nest offers an idyllic romantic retreat close to Nairobi. A private, expansive, and airy self-catering cottage boasts breathtaking views across the Rift Valley. An ideal getaway for couples and solo travelers seeking a secluded safe staycation or writers searching for inspiration. The cottage features a 180-degree panoramic views, the perfect backdrop to recline in a hammock or lounge on the sofa. The unique, custom-made King-size bed with a hotel-grade mattress ensures a deep sleep. The space The stylish design brings the Rift Valley views into the living area, with huge floor to ceiling glass doors letting fresh clean air drift into the cottage. The Nest is the latest addition to our collection of off-grid holiday cottages at The Castle on Champagne Ridge. Strategically placed at the bottom of the driveway below The Dhow and The Cave it offers uninterrupted views across the Rift Valley. Only 1 hour from Karen makes The Nest a popular getaway location for those looking for a staycation without long travel times. The bedroom doors open to the landscape; the perfect setting to wake up and enjoy a morning coffee from the King size custom designed bed. The sunsets alone will leave you in awe of Champagne Ridge. The large patio area boasts a hammock, outdoor furniture and the all-important, gas BBQ grill. The kitchen is equipped with everything you will need including a 3 burner gas cooktop, fridge, pots, pans, crockery and utensils. We also supply milk, coffee, tea and sugar as well as salt and pepper. The bathroom has gas hot water and in addition to supplying towels there is also soap, shower gel and toilet paper. Off-grid means we are totally self-sufficient with 24-hour solar power, gas cooking (gas cooktop and BBQ grill on the patio), gas hot water and rainwater harvesting systems. We collect rainwater, purify it, and store it in concealed water tanks, making it safe to drink directly from the tap. The Nest is ideal for couples or solo travelers. It is not appropriate for children or infants. While we don't have Wifi you will enjoy excellent phone and internet reception with Safaricom (4G) and Airtel (3G/4G). For those who want to limit their time in the kitchen we have some solutions. - all our cottages have a gas bbq grill making self catering easy. Throw some meat and vegetables on the bbq while enjoying a Tusker and the view. - preorder takeaway from Bunduz Cafe and pick up on your way through or call for delivery during your stay (menu is in the cottage). - Come with pizza or another take away for the 1st night (and 2nd!) and reheat on the bbq (has a lid so doubles as an oven) or on the gas cooktop. - Enjoy a Masai Experience and BBQ lunch while supporting our local community tourism venture! This experience can be booked through Airbnb Experience, simply search for - Masai Experience, BBQ Lunch, Beading, Culture, Conversation, hosted by Josephine. - support local entrepreneurs and order from boda guys based in Kiserian. Get nyama choma and all the sides delivered from one of the many amazing nyama choma places in Kiserian! We are self-catering, no daily housekeeping (weekly cleaning is included on longer stays). The closest shops are in Kiserian town 18kms away, so please be sure to bring food, drinks and condiments with you. There are phone numbers in the inhouse information sheet for bodas based in Kiserian who can shop and deliver if your supplies run low. I live on the same property with Tim (hubby) and our dogs so someone is always on hand should you need assistance. The Nest is surrounded by thousands of acres of African countryside in the heart of Masai land. Therefore, in addition to larger animals like cows, goats and sheep you may also encounter zebra, eland and dik diks as well as smaller, maybe not so welcome, flies, ants, spiders and rodents. All creatures great and small are integral to maintaining a healthy environment and each serve a valuable purpose. If this is not for you, maybe you are best suited to a city-based getaway. We will maintain a ZERO CONTACT policy with our guests, this includes check in and check out. Once you arrive and park we will direct you to your accommodation where you will find the key to let yourselves in. Guest access Located in the African bush guests have access to 10 acres of our property including the dam. Much of the surrounding area is not fenced so you are free to go for long walks either on top of the cliff or down in the valley. Champagne Ridge is famous for amazing views and brilliant hiking and biking. It is a very safe area only 1 hour from Karen, 30 minutes from Kiserian or 45 minutes from Ngong Town. The perfect and safe location for a couple or single traveler. We live on the same property so myself and my husband are always available for guests. During the rainy season (April/May and Nov) you may need a 4x4. We get significantly less rain than Nairobi so most days the last 11kms from Corner Baridi on the murrum road is bumpy but fine for all cars, occasionally it does rain making the road a little slippery in parts. Other things to note The Nest is popular among solo travelers seeking to leave the city behind for the peaceful and tranquil environment of a secure, off-grid, eco-friendly, self-catering cottage. As I live on the same property you know there is 24/7 support and security, making it ideal and safe for solos and in particular females.
