Description

This historical family plantation home has been recently converted into a homestay. Set in lush tropical gardens and being 'off grid' , we provide a fresh, clean and comfortable private room complimented by other modest amenities. You will love waking up to sweeping garden views with the odd rooster and hen clucking by your bedroom window. Base yourself here and explore what Alotau has to offer or simply disconnect, read a book, lay in a hammock all day, rest and rejuvenate. The space Our home is set in the middle of a former cocoa and copra plantation-trees of which are peppered throughout. Lush tropical gardens and a sprawling green lawn are sights that will calm your soul. This place is well suited to the intrepid traveller, solo or couple or a small family that enjoy blending into the local community. If you're a busy out-of-town local wanting a small town getaway, Alotau is Perfect. We highly recommend visiting the markets and then cooking over the open fire local style. A well stocked kitchen awaits. If 'disconnecting' and being cocooned by nature is your thing, then this is perfect. Be woken by the early morning rooster's crow, a coffee on the verandah then catch a taxi or the bus into town for your tour or simply read a book and stay home. This is a great hide-away for writers or even keen foodies wanting to explore our local cuisine. The house is located 5 minutes drive from the airport and 15 minutes from Alotau Town. Being off-the-grid and in a semi- rural setting, rainwater, generator/solar is our source of water and electricity. Guest access All areas are accessible. We will help make your stay as comfortable as possible. Being in a semi-rural setting, you can expect to meet a few other friendly and helpful family members on the property. Contact us from the airport and we will be happy to help you with directions to the property. The best way is via a taxi. During your stay We would absolutely love to hear of your travels and more importantly to find out how we can help make your time here in Alotau a memorable one. Our family also live on the perimeter of the 4 hectare property. Guests are welcome to interact and we'll make sure you have your privacy during your stay. Other things to note COMMUNICATION It's important you provide a phone number for us to call as soon as you are at the airport. Being a semi remote location, we'd like to ensure that you are looked after from your arrival to departure. WEATHER & CLOTHING Alotau is typically tropical and generally early half of the year is monsoonal and the latter is dry. Afternoon or overnight showers cool the air but it can also be very humid. Light, modest tropical clothing is recommended. Sarongs, board shorts (surf or sports) are great for women to cover up during village swims at rivers or beaches as well as wearing around the house. Any quickdry outdoor designed clothing works well too. If you have packed a good hat, sunscreen and mosquito (insect) repellant you're doing well! We provide sunscreen and repellant at the house. WATER & POWER Being 'off-grid' rain water is collected and stored in tanks for bathroom, toilet, laundry and kitchen use. As a precaution, you should always boil the water before drinking or use bottled water. Because water is tanked, please conserve it and use it wisely. You'll see buckets in the kitchen and bathroom; they're provided to help with being water-wise though all taps are connected with running water. A generator is available for power supply as is solar for night lighting and use of the fans or mobile phone charging. INTERNET At the house, internet access is available through the Digicel network. It is the most reliable network around our area. You should buy a DIGICEL SIM card at the international airport in Port Moresby when you arrive or you can buy from Alotau Town centre. TRANSPORT A 4-wheel drive vehicle is readily available for hire if you need to be dropped off/picked up around Alotau to far away destinations that you may have booked with. If you'd like a tour of Alotau' s main attractions or road trip up to the East Cape, we can arrange this too. Please let us know. Prices will apply
