We live in a quiet neighborhood and have strict noise limits after 10pm!! The space All original time capsule Mid Century Modern gem right on the water! Our house has been virtually undisturbed since it was built in 1960 down to the original light fixtures from Denmark that have been hanging there ever since. Enjoy the stunning quintessential Californian architecture, amazing 12' window front overlooking the water, fully stocked gourmet kitchen, pool, hot tub, and a great deck to relax on. For the winter, enjoy the floor heating and fireplace! The house was built in 1960 by an architect/contractor couple who specialized in waterfront properties. They went on to develop the marina in Richmond, CA across the bay. The house was built in the typical style for the era which is now known as Mid Century Modern (MCM). For some it represents the archetypical California home. Our house features all the typical MCM aspects with a huge 12' window front facing the water, heated floors, and all natural materials (wood and rock from the Sierra Nevada). Our house is located directly on a small cove off San Rafael Creek. There is lots of wildlife that can be viewed right off our deck. Night Herons are the most predominant. You can always see a bunch of them resting in the trees around the cove during the day. Egrets are also frequent visitors with the biggest Egret rookery in the San Francisco Bay Area located on the Marin Islands right outside of the mouth of San Rafael Creek. At dusk you can see those birds fishing around the edge of our cove. If you’re lucky a Great Blue Heron may join them. There are always lots of Hummingbirds, Seagulls, crows, and waterfowl around and you can spot Hawks, Ospreys, and Falcons on high perches. At times you may observe Seals and Cormorants dive around the cove. And, if you’re lucky, you can watch Sea Otters play on our dock. If you come down to the dock and observe closely, you may catch a Leopard Shark or Bat Ray swim around the cove. Please note that our sailboat that you see on some of the pictures is no longer there. While we’re always maintaining and improving our house within the constraints of the original design, there are certain elements that we don’t want to change in order to keep it original. As such, the house may lack certain modern features and convenience. Here are a few examples: No Air Conditioning San Rafael has a very temperate climate and our house has very good natural ventilation by design, so air conditioning is hardly ever needed. We do have fans throughout the house that help move the air during the rare occasions when it does get hot. There are usually just a few days from July until October when it gets above 80℉/25℃ inside the house and we have tips in our house manual (accessible after you book) on how to keep the house cool when it gets warm. It’s always great to cool off in the pool during those days. No TV We decided to create a space for socializing and interacting with each other. So we are not offering a TV in our house. Some guests bring a computer monitor or similar if they want to watch movies or plan for video conferences. Guest access You’ll have access to the entire house, the private deck, private pool, and private hot tub. No access to the locked storage area upstairs and no access to the garage. San Rafael Noise Ordinance Our house is located in a residential neighborhood with neighbors nearby.
