Description

Chale Reefs is a fantastic beach house on Msambweni beach, a 2km stretch of white sand. The house sits in 4 acres of private gardens with a pool, tennis court and 50m of beach frontage. The house is fully staffed. While at the house, the staff do everything they can to make your stay how you would like it to be. They cook, clean & do the laundry. Their smiling welcome is a big part of what makes Chale Reefs such a special place for couples, families and groups of friends. The space There are four double bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. Two bedrooms upstairs open onto a wide sea-facing balcony. Another bedroom on the ground floor opens onto the garden which leads to the beach. The downstairs bedroom has an air-conditioner, if needed. There is a large galleried sitting room and a dining room, which both look out onto the sea. Meals can be served outside on the terrace if you prefer. The house is fully staffed including cook, house staff, gardeners and askaris. Within the grounds there is a 12m swimming pool with a vast pool house where one could spend the whole day. Alongside the pool is a tennis court, recently resurfaced, and we have also added a concrete table tennis table underneath a large mango tree. Despite all that, it is the beach that makes Chale Reefs so special: 2km of white sand, largely untouched by development and used almost exclusively by local fishermen and a sprinkling of tourists. The gently sloping beach and rock pools in the coral mean there is safe swimming for all ages at high or low tide. An outer reef lies about 400 metres off shore, teaming with tropical fish and a variety of corals. Snorkelling trips in a traditional ngalawa can easily be organised through contacts in the village. Guest access The house, gardens, pool and tennis court are all for your own private use. The property is set on two levels. Parking, pool and tennis court are on the top level, whilst the house is below, at the beach. A flight of about thirty steps separates the two levels. This might present difficulties for someone with significant mobility issues or in a wheelchair. Please contact us to discuss your needs before making a booking request. Other things to note The base price is set at $175 per night for 4 people. There is an additional charge of $15 per person per night for numbers over 4. The reason for this is that Chale Reefs feels the wear and tear of large numbers. Electricity for cooking and heating water is expensive, as is diesel to run the generator. Almost all our water is collected rain water and thus is a finite resource that would cost to replenish. Larger groups have a heavier impact on the house and for that reason we feel that they merit an additional cost. We hope you still consider that the house, the facilities, the staff and the location offer remarkably good value. Our nightly price is higher over the Christmas and New Year period. Please see the section 'Guest Access' if someone in your party has significant mobility issues.
