Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the Fish Market on Anchor Bay, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. . Governor's Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed. Walking over the hill in the other direction leads to French Leave Beach, the finest beach on the island and one of the great beaches of the Caribbean. By foot, it’s about a 10 minute walk to French Leave Beach, a mile-long crescent of pink sand which is literally deserted most of the time. Most visitors to Eleuthera rent a car, because the island is rural and spread out, and a car is the only practical way to get around. By car, Squires Estate is just a minute from French Leave Beach. Eleuthera is a little slice of paradise! Life here is like a whimsical adventure, where power outages are just nature's way of reminding us to embrace the candlelit charm of our island evenings. During the off-season, our restaurants and stores play a game of hide-and-seek, adding an exciting twist to the hunt for the perfect meal or souvenir. And oh, the bugs and roosters! They're like the quirky co-stars in our island comedy, providing the soundtrack to our days and nights. Despite these quirks, we wouldn't trade our unique island life for anything. After all, where else can you experience such delightful chaos and still call it paradise?
