Description

Idyllic bedsit, en-suite bathroom built around an indigenous African Bushwillow tree (Combretum Molle). Complete with chattering hoopoes, killer fire for Nairobi nights, wifi, electric fence, backup inverter & generator, two verandas, drinkable borehole water, mature garden & trees. 5min walk from the Kitengela Glass studio, the iconic Kenyan recycled glassblowers famed for their vibrant chunky artistic glass pieces. On the outskirts of Nairobi, 50min from Karen & 70min from Nairobi center. The space With a high roof & two verandahs, air scrubbed clean over hundreds of kilometers of the Kitengela plains this privately owned bedsit will allow you to find peace in the wild. Take a deep breath. Listen to lion & hyena calling at night. Zebra chattering. Allow the serenity of the adjacent Nairobi National Park & Silole Sanctuary to permeate your being. Or, stay at your new home, hang out on the verandahs - or nap on the comfy sofa in the mini living room to the sounds of avian life in the glade, the cicadas and quiet buzz of rural tranquility. In the evenings snuggle round the roaring fire after eating a meal - this time prepped in the well appointed open plan kitchen - with all the necessities (gas stove, microwave, kettle, Dualit toaster, Smeg dishwasher, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glasses, mugs, oil & condiments) to reheat your takeaway or cook from scratch. We do not have a resident cook but we can recommend one for you. There are takeaway delivery options available - check the house manual for more info on that. There’s a big fridge that should be ample for your food storage needs. Right next door discover the legendary Kitengela Glass Studios - a 7 minute stroll from the house. Watch as the glassblowers ply their craft blowing molten waste scrap glass into art, under a glittering planetarium dome or jump in and try your hand at a glassblowing session. Guests can also swim in the whimsical Dragon Pool and attempt to cross the Scary Bridge. The Glasstronomique café serves superlative homemade icecream, fine coffee, pizza, cold beers and snacks. As we are living in a beautiful, rural, quiet residential area no parties are permitted (also per airbnb rules) & no loud music. This is the perfect place to swap city life for a tranquil environment for a couple or a solo traveller. Guest access Guests have their own area to hang out in. In our place (next door) we have a fully fitted gym. Welcome to break a sweat or work off some of the previous day's dinner. I usually open the door at 6am & close around 6pm. We are off the beaten track and away from the hustle and bustle of town/city life. For those who would like to visit Nairobi & its attractions daily we suggest choosing somewhere closer to town. If you need a taxi for airport or any other transfers we can give you some contacts of drivers who know our location. We are about 45 minutes from Wilson airport and about an hour & a quarter from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport - traffic contingent. The last 5km to the house are on a rough murram road. We are off the beaten track and for those who would like to visit Nairobi daily we suggest choosing somewhere closer to town. Large Ubers (pref not chapchap/small ones) can bring you here and it’s best to book one of our local taxi drivers to collect you after your stay as well as bring you here if you don't have your own transport. Ideally please do not come after dark as we are difficult to find if this is your first time. For those arriving in Kenya late at night we recommend using one of our local taxi drivers to collect and bring you here. Please bring your supplies with you as we are 10km from the nearest supermarket. Other things to note The last few kilometers is a murram all weather road which is rough in places. For those coming via Uber it is better to take the larger ubers instead of the small chapchap. Ubers come to us and not from us. Instead book one of our trusted cabbies to both bring and collect you, or arrange with your taxi to collect upon check out. Deliveries are possible from Karen, Langata or Nairobi from various restaurants or grocery stores. We will assist you with local rider numbers and delivery suggestions. We have 24 hour caretakers on the property. We have strong wifi. On the other side of our property we have Ole Chalet - Country Living at its Finest, a 4 bedroom 4 bathroom cottage. Looking for a coastal escape? We also host two unique beachside properties in Watamu - sun, sea and stunning glass art await. Both homes are a 2-minute walk from the ocean via private beach acess - perfect for peaceful seaside mornings, sunset strolls and watersports.
