Welcome to our peaceful and picturesque sanctuary in the high desert of New Mexico: a comfortable, well-appointed three bedroom home with a spacious, private outdoor patio, large hot springs tub and a magical solarium -- all situated with stunning views in the quiet of nature. We invite you to come soak in the healing waters, unplug from your daily stressors, and luxuriate in rest and replenishment. Ours is an ideal place to soothe the body, quiet the mind and calm the spirit, while being nurtured and nourished by the beauty of nature. In this lovely environment, we welcome you to explore your inner terrain — and opportunities for healing and creativity. To enhance these possibilities, we offer a wide array of experiences at our Emergence Healing and Expressive Arts Center, a few short blocks away. Although near the downtown area, your hot springs retreat is a private world unto itself. The outdoor patio, enclosed by warm cedar fencing, is a secluded space which opens southward onto sprawling vistas of the Rio Grande, Turtleback Mountain and wide-open New Mexico sky. Here you can soak to your heart’s content in your own spacious private hot springs tub. The patio also has a private Solarium. This quiet, charming, climate-controlled space has large picture windows with sweeping views. We created the Solarium to be multi-functional: you can lay out the yoga mat; set up the table for your laptop; spread out your art project or relax on the couch for quiet contemplation, a good book and a cup of tea, your morning coffee, or perhaps some late-afternoon wine and conversation. This a laptop-friendly workspace. HOT SPRINGS Soaking in the hot springs is a wonderful gift from Nature. The geothermal waters penetrate deeply into the body -- soothing the muscles and bones, nurturing the mind and spirit. Our healing waters have an average temperature of 104-106º F . The waters are crystal clear and odorless, containing 38 different minerals and a balanced pH of 7. We remind our guests to DRINK LOTS OF WATER while soaking, and please be mindful of overheating. Use the hot mineral bath at your own risk. Soaking at temperatures above 104º F may involve increased risk. See "House Rules" for more safety information regarding soaking in the hot springs. GOOD TO KNOW * Smoke-free, pet-allergen & chemical free environment * Natural soaps, shampoos & conditioners in each bathroom * Cleaning products used are biodegradable, hypoallergenic, non chlorine, botanical disinfectants made from pure essential oils including eucalyptus, French peppermint, cinnamon, cloves, orange etc. TIPS * House and Solarium are shoe-free zones * Absolutely no smoking or incense burning (indoors), and no candle burning (indoors or outdoors) * Porch, deck and hot tub areas are quiet zones (sound has an amazing ability to travel up and down the river) EXTRAS * Laundry room available for long stays (7+ nights) GUEST ACCESS * Self Check-In with code lock box * One key opens all outside doors (car-port, house, solarium) ENTRANCE & PARKING: There is a two-vehicle, covered car-port in front of the house. Additional parking in front of the cedar fence to the left of the house next door. We are readily available to help guests with any questions or unexpected needs. TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES (T or C) While our riverside retreat is private and secluded, facing out onto a broad expanse of unspoiled nature, just behind it lies the residential and downtown neighborhood of T or C’s Historic Hot Water district. This area was once inhabited by Apaches, and legend has it that the warring tribes would lay down their weapons and be at peace while they soaked in the healing waters. Years later, those same geothermal waters brought miners, ranchers and soldiers into the area. T or C's roots stretch back to that time period, around the late 1800's. The downtown district still has shades of an "old west" feel to it. But the historic architecture now blends with quirky colors, cool murals and creative store fronts that define the town. HOT WATER DISTRICT RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD You can step out the back door of our place and in a few short blocks you’ll find yourself on Broadway, which along with Main St. creates a loop that defines the downtown district. BREWERY T or C Brewery serves an awesome selection of meticulously crafted beer. You can enjoy spacious cool indoor seating, or sip your brew outside on the shaded front patio or grotto areas. Enjoy live music from touring artists, who’ve discovered T or C’s vibe (and the luxury of the hot springs!). Brewery clientele can order take-out food from the Grapevine Bistro delivered to their table. RESTAURANTS One of T or C's favorite is the Passion Pie, a breakfast/lunch indoor, outdoor, take-out cafe with fresh-baked croissants, phenomenal pastries, really good coffee and a wonderful assortment of breakfast and light lunch dishes. Also within the downtown loop of Broadway and Main, you’ll find the Outer Edge Pizza for lunch and dinner with indoor/outdoor seating as well as take out. Their extensive menu includes great, 10 inch artisanal-style individual pizzas (regular, gluten free and cauliflower crust options), hot and cold sandwiches, crisp salads, flavorful pastas, appetizers and desserts. We also love A & B drive-in for an authentic New Mexico green-chile cheeseburger and a wide variety of American drive-in and Mexican food. The Grapevine Bistro offers takeout and free delivery to the brewery. The Bistro offers a great selection of burgers (including vegan and GF), as well as other delicious options. In the old bowling alley is the always fun Sidekixx, which hosts a bar and restaurant with traditional pizza, burgers, fish & chips, salads etc. You'll often find live music here too. If you’re looking for a top-shelf steak and lobster dinner house with a full bar, Los Arcos is your spot (a mere 5 minute drive from downtown). GALLERIES Amongst the galleries sprinkled around town, our favorites are Rio Bravo, where you can check out original paintings from legendary artists, Delmas Howe and Joe Waldrum; the Desert Archaic, which features the eclectic work of Kyle Parker Cunningham, Jeannie Ortiz and other local artists, along with Jeannie’s extraordinary weaving creations; the Center Gallery and the Artist Abbey Gallery. VARIOUS CURIOUS Our local grocery, Bullocks, is a small-town market with a surprising selection of healthy, organic items and a surprising liquor department stocked with an ample supply of beer, wine and spirits. If you’re looking for outdoor activities, consider a casual hike on the Healing Waters Trail, which winds above the Rio Grande and looks up to the scenic Turtleback Mountain. For the more ambitious, there are gorgeous hikes throughout the area within short driving distance. During the summertime, enjoy floating in over-sized inner tubes down the Rio Grande, meandering with a cooler full of refreshments through the beautiful high desert landscape. CARPE MAÑANA In general, T or C is a “carpe mañana” kind of place — a bona fide hot springs mecca with a lovely, laid-back pace. Its a small, quirky little town with its own eccentric charm, home to a growing number of creative personalities manifesting their vision and sharing in authentic community values. STAIRS: 7 easy steps from carport to house and from house to outdoor patio. SHOES: House and Solarium are shoe-free zones. SMOKING: No smoking or incense burning inside the house or the solarium. No candle burning anywhere on the property. Thank you! PETS: No pets allowed. The house is a pet-allergen and chemical free environment.
