River Shell House Duiwenhoks river Vermaaklikheid.

Relax in a delightful country house, based on traditional Kapstyl architectural heritage, River Shell House oozes charm & simplicity for unfussed holidays and getaways in a beautiful riverine setting. A wood-fired KolKol hot tub on the deck, is perfect for relaxation after a hard day of doing nothing or fishing ;) The house is on the Duiwenhoks river, 10 km from the estuary mouth, on opposite side of river to the village of Vermaaklikheid, and sleeps 10 in spacious, uncluttered simplicity. The space River Shell House consists of four individual buildings linked by a courtyard. Main building is the cozy Lounge/Dining/Kitchen with rustic outdoor Braai boma. Second building is "Moonshine": Two interleading rooms, main with a Queen Bed, and other with two Twin beds that can be made up as a King Bed. Third building is "Sunrise", with King Bed, en-suite shower and toilet; plus a separate bedroom, "Hobbit", with Double Bed. Fourth building is Kapstylhuisie, with two Twin Beds which can be made up as King Bed. The fifth building is an outdoor bathroom, with toilet, shower and bath. Furniture is all rustic, farm style or home made. All rooms have fans for summer and hot water bottles for chilly nights. Guest access Access is only by 4x4, AWD, bakkie with Diff lock or a high clearance SUV with at least a 2.2 turbo motor, or similar offroad capable vehicles. You will access via farm roads on the western bank of the Duiwenhoks river, which is part of the adventure. There are two canoes for guest use. You are welcome to bring your own rubberduck, but there is no slip for larger boats at the property. The river is a conservancy, and all boat users must adhere to a "dead slow" speed over a 2 km span where many children, dogs and adults, swim and play. Other things to note You need to bring all food and supplies with you, as well as towels, shampoo and personal hygiene items. The tap water is safe for washing and bathing, but you need to bring drinking water. If you need to make phone calls or use 3G, please walk the road at back of house onto the top of hill where you will get signal. There are books and a variety of board games and Boules (Bocce) for playing on the field. Guests are asked to separate recyclables and take these home with them, as there is no recycling depot in the area.
