Welcome to BnA_WALL, Tokyo's awe-inspiring creative epicenter with its own art hotel, artist studio, and cafe/bar/lounge. BnA_WALL features 26 art rooms created by 14 local Artists. True to our “stay in an art room, become a patron” ethos, part of every booking goes to the artist who created the room. This room “PLAY WALL/ROOM” was created by BIEN. The space About BnA_WALL BnA_WALL is a Tokyo hotel in the Nihonbashi district that functions as a creative hub and art patron platform, featuring 26 individual art rooms designed by different artists, a constantly evolving 6m x 6m mural in its lobby, and an in-house cafe and bar where guests can watch artists at work. The hotel's concept is to provide a space for Japanese artists to showcase their work and earn income, offering a unique, art-infused hospitality experience that is both accessible and inspiring to guests and the local community. ◆ About the Room This room is made by randomly constructing and arranging walls of various materials and patterns. The artist BIEN focused on the process in which walls are constructed. In the early phases of building BnA_WALL Hotel, this room you sit in was subdivided from a large empty floor to create smaller private rooms by constructing walls. BIEN saw these rooms as a kind of fiction created by “walls” that we construct. Various types of walls line the room like a collage, and its veneer surfaces are carved out revealing the bare substrate; exposing the fictional nature of this space. On the other hand, the furnishings are a collection of hand selected pieces resembling an old motel creating a strange sense of unity. BIEN’s works are based on drawing. He has been inspired by street culture, animation, and figurines. BIEN paints abstract paintings and makes installation works, inheriting various ways of expressing that represents these cultures. He tries to dissolve and reconstruct symbolic meanings.
