Scenic drives in all directions - Mounts Errigal and Muckish - 3/4 hr to beaches at Falcarraigh, Marble Hill & Ards Forest Park. And now with superfast fibre broadband! Find and follow us on social media .... Claggan Mill is at the bottom of a private lane, which also leads to three other (permanently lived in) but equally secluded homes. Land includes the field below the house, with access to the lake. It is a “character house” which has been furnished and decorated for warmth and comfort, while retaining many of its sometimes eccentric quirks and features. The solar ventilation system dehumidifies, refreshes and circulates the air in the house. It has a large living room with French doors looking down to the lake and a wood and turf burning fireplace (many artworks, books and games), a dining room with Raeburn stove, and a small rustic but well equipped kitchen (fridge-freezer, dishwasher and gas oven/hob). There are two bedrooms at the top of the spiral staircase: one large queensize bedroom with ensuite shower room and walk-in wardrobe; the other -- the "enchanted forest" -- with twin beds and sink. The third, single bedroom with futon (can serve as quiet second sitting room when not used as bedroom) is up a "ship's ladder" staircase at back of house and has a sink. Family bathroom/shower downstairs and utility room with sink, toilet, washing machine and microwave in annexe. Fast fibre Wifi; mobile phone signal at one end of house. CD players and radios but no TV. The spiral stairs and steep back stairs mean the house is not suitable for infants, the elderly and the infirm. The house may be at least two hundred years old, and corn was ground here for the surrounding farms. You can still see behind the old mill building the stone platform around which the horses turned the mill. Corn was ferried across the lake from the now uninhabited Derryveagh and winched up the field. The two-story farmhouse was abandoned in 1953, extended, sensitively and creatively restored by the previous owner during the late 80s, and further developed and maintained by the present owners, who bought it in 1998. For guests flying into Belfast International airport, we highly recommend Kings Car Hire, for exceptional value and service -- we've been using and recommending them for years. Guest access The entire house itself and utility room. No access to converted stable/studio or mill building. Access to field and lake below the house. Other things to note Service charge is included in overall price. No service charge is added. This is an old house and family home. Please look carefully at reviews, photos and description and ask me any questions if unsure before booking. The house is served by a spring well and a pump -- water has been lab-tested and is excellent for drinking. Also uses septic tank -- eco toilet cleaners, dish and clothes washing products are provided. Please do not use any products with bleach, or put things down the toilet that don't belong there. Many thanks for this. There are low doorways in the kitchen and low beams. Anyone over 5ft 9in (appx 1.75 m) needs to be careful! Children in particular need to be careful on the staircases -- always come down the ship's ladder backwards. House not suitable for elderly and infirm.
