Description

Enjoy Pucon's charm in our beautiful, quiet, custom, eco-home below Villarrica National Park. This unique find is ideal for adventurous nature, bird, garden, and cooking lovers. We've got a dream kitchen for exploring the local cuisine. Come stay in our comfy, spacious, bright, well-insulated home and live like a local, in a safe and quiet neighborhood. Enjoy the tranquility of mountain life, stars, bird song, and the best drinking water ever. Hike and ski to Villarrica NP from the house! The space This is not a usual vacation rental, it was my home for over 9 years. It is a very comfortable and beautiful homestead that we are offering for you to experience. We hope you will appreciate all the details that have made this place so special for so many. 2025 NOTE: We have a new, insulated roof (no more leaks during Andean storms) and an additional wood stove and backup solar power! Which means when everyone else doesn't have power--which is rather often lately in the region--you will likely have both power and internet! We have fast and reliable Starlink satellite internet. The home office is a great private workspace with a garden view, and there are several other nice options around the house for virtual work. Our large master bedroom has lovely views from the king-sized bed which opens onto a huge deck with a built-in claw-foot bath. The bed is amazingly comfortable with quality sheets and a down comforter (we do have other options for those who can't do down.) There is also a couch in the master bedroom with a pull-out bed for extra guests or little kids. The bedroom includes a small custom-made desk/workspace, lots of English books, and a wood stove. The second bedroom has a queen bed with a forest view and morning sun, and its own door to the deck. Both bedrooms have black out curtains for sleeping-in days. The bathroom was recently remodeled with a spacious tub and shower with a forest view, lovely for sunny morning soaks. If you love baths, you'll love the outdoor tub on the deck in the early morning listening to bird songs, or at night under a star-filled sky with the milky way and perhaps a shooting star. We've got a dream kitchen to create everything from gourmet meals to simple snacks, with a big gas stove and oven, as well as a wonderful wood cookstove/oven. We've got all the pots and pans and utensils you'll need, and a host of great cookbooks in English and Spanish, as well as many condiments and a variety of spices. There's an herb garden outside to add local flavor to your creations. There is a smart TV in the kitchen/living area, and a big wood stove between the kitchen and dining area, so in addition to the cocina leña (wood cook stove), you can be very cozy on chilly mountain nights. The outside is magnificent, with beautiful views and lots of lush, green forests and gardens and flowers and birds in summer, or beautiful snow in the winter. The song birds are fabulous in the morning and evening, and then there are the stars! There is lots of room to run and play, for kids of all ages. Our organic gardens and greenhouses have lots of raspberries and Concord grapes in early summer, blueberries in summer and fall, and apples and in the fall. There are sometimes extra veggies in the greenhouses or garden for you to enjoy (please check with Nico first). If you’re so inclined, we appreciate your help watering the house greenhouse (or let Rosa know to water). We have lots of toys for all ages, including board games, a yoga mat, and more. We also have a "tent cabin" in the woods for a quiet retreat, or overnight campout (with your own sleeping bags and pads). There are great runs and hikes from the house, even up into the National Park. Our house is a well-insulated, comfortable home with plenty of hot water and firewood and 3 wood stoves. In winter, you must be prepared to chop wood and heat with wood, as it is the only heat source. We have a pet friendly house (with dog doors and lots of room to run and play), and welcome well-behaved and clean pets. The yard is not fenced and you are expected to keep your animals from running away and bothering any neighbors as well as nearby farm animals. Guest access You will have full access to our home and property. You're free to wander in our organic greenhouses and gardens and walk around the neighborhood. There are lots of areas to walk, run, and hike from our front door. There is even a secret "tent" cabin in the woods for summer playing in or sleeping with the birds if you or the kids feel like some glorified camping. Please keep kids out of the office, it's a work space with things kids can break. Nico lives in the nearby cabin, so you’ll likely see him around the property. When he is not working, he can often help answer questions and provide local recommendations. Nico also leads local Forest Bathing and hiking experiences. Other things to note Our water is amazing, likely the best you will have ever tasted. This is a great place to escape the world and enjoy a healthy slice of paradise. You can enjoy a calm and quiet lifestyle when you are at our home, and go to town when you want to socialize. Our home is 20 - 30 minutes from Pucón by car (often much longer in summer and holiday weekends, depending on the ever-increasing Pucón traffic). There are endless opportunities for adventure in and around the neighborhood and Pucón; we can suggest some of the better quality options. Our house is designed with passive solar, so you can heat it with the sun on cool days. You can also open the greenhouse windows and doors during the day to heat the downstairs, and then close them at night to keep the heat in the house. We have backup solar power and batteries. If the grid power goes out, it will likely be for less than a minute before the battery backup system comes on. You may have to wait for the internet to restart then. We don't have TV service, but we have a Smart TV downstairs (to use with your own streaming accounts). We’re only 30 minutes to visit the quaint Mapuche village of Currarehue; Anita Epulef’s world-class Mapuche restaurant just before you arrive to Currarehue on the right is an epicurean delight. From there you can head up the Andes to the gorgeous araucaria forests and views of Lanin at the border with Argentina.
