Three purpose built guest rooms downstairs from my home. They share a veranda with two hammocks for each room. Seashell is an end room. We are located on a lovely beach with shady palms - in the Garifuna fishing village of Hopkins. Hopkins is a village that gives you access to kayaking, snorkeling, diving the barrier reef, jungle treks, and Mayan ruins. Open your room door. Step right out onto the beach. Step into the Caribbean sea. My place is great for single travellers or couples, and the sea view is amazing! "Seashell" is a small rustic beach room (a 135sqft bedroom, an outside private bathroom and a seaview veranda). It's made from local woods, in Belizean style, and built right on the sand in front of the ocean. It has a fridge, a coffee pot, plates and cutlery, all perfect for breakfast or light lunches on your veranda. There is no kitchen. The bathroom is outside the room but very close by. The shower stall is just a few steps from your room with hot water, it's enclosed, private, and surrounded by flowers, orchids, and trees. You have a small room with a sink and a toilet, this is accessed by going out your door at the rear of your bedroom, onto a small outside rear veranda, and going immediately into the door to your left. The outside toilet and shower are exclusively for your use. Seashell is an end room. Towels and beach towels are provided, as are some reading materials and an information folder on the area. Lots of windows give ventilation. The windows, a floor fan and the sea breeze are what cool this room. If you prefer an inside bathroom look under my profile for my Seafish and my Seahorse beach front rooms. They share the same great view. Guests have access to to the beach, and beach chairs, which are right in front of the room, and are shared areas. Two private hammocks on the veranda. The veranda is shared with 2 other rooms. And there is also a garden seating area behind the rooms, with fruit trees and orchids. I have more than 20 years experience of Belize and, if you wish, I am happy to help you with village information and tour recommendations. I give my guests space but am available if needed. We are right on the beach! We are in the village of Hopkins, which is part of the charm I think, but I also know that it is not what everybody is looking for. Hopkins is still very much a village community, not a resort tourist destination, but it is a wonderful community with a unique Garifuna culture. Come to Hopkins with that in mind, embrace a different land and culture, and you will love it. If you are looking for a resort style vacation, then we may not be the right place for you. Being in the village can sometimes mean you will hear children, dogs, radios, chicken and roosters, but mostly you will hear the breeze through the palm trees and the sound of the waves. Belize is still a developing country, the main highways are paved, but some roads are still dirt. With this comes potholes and unmarked speed bumps on occasion. From the International airport to Hopkins is 3 hours drive on paved roads. You can also reach Hopkins from BZE with a flight to Dangriga, the bus or with a shuttle. The closest unexcavated Mayan ruins, waterfalls, zipline, and jungle hikes are just 10 miles away. The closest excavated Mayan ruins are two and a half hours drive from here, either west or south. Every guide offers tours to these places from the village, but a lot of people who stay here drive there themselves, the ruins are not hard to find. Snorkeling at the barrier reef is a 40 minute boat ride from Hopkins and half day or full day tours are offered by tour guides throughout the village. 9% Belize government tax will be collected upon check-in. The Belize Tourism Board requires every host to register the primary guests home address and nationality. We are Gold Standard Certified. This means we are complying with the sanitizing and cleaning protocols mandated by the government of Belize. I built in Belizean style with products that where available to me 25 years ago. I have chosen to keep my guest rooms in that same style. If you are looking for modern this would not be the place for you. But if you are looking to stay somewhere that really makes you feel like you have visited somewhere different for your vacation then I think this will work for you. I do not consider my wooden guest rooms suitable for children, better suited are my more modern listings of the apartments. For the majority of my guests we are an international destination. Because of the advanced planning, and the cost, you should consider purchasing travel insurance that can cover you for a wide range of situations. I am happy to have guests stay for Christmas, but no check-ins or check-outs on Dec 25th or 26th please.
