Our cabin is close to nature with a private beach shared with just three other camps. It includes 4 kayaks, 2 paddle boards, a plentitude of life jackets , a swim float, and we're close to a boat launch, and extensive ATV trails. You’ll love our place because of the solitude, the water, and the cabin life. Spec Pond has a great native perch and pickerel fishery. Serenity abounds. Watch eagles, loons and even moose right from the beach. Life on Spec Pond moves at your pace. The camp comfortably sleeps six with a bunk room, a bedroom and a sleeping loft. A full kitchen with propane appliances provides easy meal prep. Drinking water must be provided by tenants, but water for washing and utilities is pumped straight from the spring-fed lake. An outdoor solar bag shower, composting toilets and gas lights make living off the grid a breeze. Enjoy evenings on the front porch or by the fire pit overlooking the lake watching eagles, loons or just watching the windmills in the distance. The private beach is shared by just three other camps and includes a swim float and kayaks. There is ample space for parking and outdoor activities. You are about 45 minutes from both Bangor and Ellsworth, Maine and approximately 1 1/2 hours from Acadia National Park. Hikes near camp: Chick Hill/Peaked Mountain Eagles Bluff Schoodic Mountain Catherine Mountain Black Mountain All under 1000' elevation gain, but all have scenic vistas and overlooks. All within 15 miles of camp. Also there is a series of trails, largely unmapped, around Little Spec and the narrows. During your stay the entire camp, beach in front of camp and lot is yours. There are no restrictions on use or access. Guests will be assisted with check-in and set up. After that you are on your own space! We are located about an hour away if you need assistance, but there is a local contact in case of emergency. You'll have as much privacy as you like, but your few neighbors are long time property owners who have an investment in keeping the lake beautiful. There may be an occasional neighborhood family dog that comes to visit. Nightlife consists of evenings on the beach, puzzles in the cabin and the occasional drive to the Airline Snack Bar or Mace's Snack Bar (both about 10 miles away) for ice cream. Guests must provide their own transportation. It is five miles to the nearest paved road, ten miles to the nearest gas station and thirty miles to the closest shopping/grocery store. Camp is about 45 minutes from Ellsworth and Bangor and about 1.5 hours drive to Acadia National Park. The access road into camp is a working logging road - log trucks have the right of way! There is ample parking for guest vehicles, easy access to ATV trails and a boat launch at the end of the beach. The pond is used mostly by local fishermen and other camp owners - mainly kayakers and other small craft. This is an off the grid cabin in the north woods of Maine. It is five miles to the nearest paved road, ten miles to the nearest gas/convenience store and 30 miles to the nearest supermarket. Guests must plan accordingly. Keep in mind that Maine is famous for changeable weather and it is not unusual to experience cool mornings, sunny days and rainy evenings all in one day. Summer nights in the woods can be buggy, so bug spray and sun screen are necessities. You will also see more stars and brighter moon over Spec Pond than anywhere else we can think of, but cell phone service can be spotty Please note that there is the occasional mouse that wanders into camp. Don't be alarmed. They don't bite and if you let us know we'll trap it. What to bring: drinking/cooking water, AA batteries, sunscreen, bug spray, paper plates/paper towels/plastic silverware. We have BBQ grill for you to use. In addition we have percolator coffee pot and drip coffee makers.
