dream house
Description
hi, this a cozy kind of small guest house made of stones and wood. it consists of one bed room, a big living room with open kitchen, a bathroom, a terrace with lake view upstairs and a patio with a palm tree and a sitting area. The space casa de sueños dear potential guest, if you are looking for a fancy and luxurious city-like apartment, or a post- modern resort like chalet, please check other places and don’t bother reading the following. i have been living in this village, tunis village, since 1994, in the western part which didn’t have electricity or running water. i loved it then for that simple almost primitive life. 10 years later i finally managed to buy a small piece of land and built my own house following the traditional ways of construction. therefore the house is completely hand made by the manual work of my local neighbours. so is electricity and plumbing work, as i like to be part of helping local people make some earning though the work done is not really professional, but i accept it as part of life which is not always perfect. the foundation is built of local stones and the walls made of hand made mud brick, the ceilings of wood. the second part of the house was built almost 10 years later, and is mostly made of stones and wood. when my family is here we use both parts, when not, i rent that part as a guest house. the guest house area consists of a 2 floor house with a flight of stairs, about 20 made of stone with a wooden hand rail. a double bed room downstairs with freshly washed and clean bed linen, towels and a blanket, a big living room with a kitchen downstairs, next to it is the bath room of the whole house. outside there is huge patio and a sitting area and a hammock and a palm tree in the middle that produces dates in august or a bit later. the guest house has its own entry door, a nice antique one. but the entry to the whole area is from the main gate of garden and both parts. guests enter from the gate, climb up about 5 steps, to the patio and into the house. all the furniture in the house is simple and basic, made of local materials like palm tree throngs and used wood. windows are old with marks showing their previous life which i keep as they are because i like the fact that they are old and have history, so i don’t repaint most of them. there are plenty of hand made pottery art works, that i made myself, as i am a pottery artist, and a writer as well. the kitchen has a fridge, cooker\stove, a toaster that is not automatic, a kettle, and plates, pans, kitchen ware. in the living room area, there are 2 sofas and 4 chairs, antique black and white tv, for decoration purposes, and an antique landline telephone. there is a variety of novels in english and arabic, 2 of the arabic ones i am their author, available for reading, but not to be taken away. the bath room is not big, but spacious enough to have a toilet, basin and a shower place and a heater. there’s a water tank above the upstair room, that is always full, in case there is no running water which sometimes happens in the whole village or parts of it. there are 2 big bottles full of reserve water stored under the flight of stairs. sometimes, there is a power cut in the village, so there are candles in the house. there is also some wood log under the flight of stairs that guests could use for free, afire pit, and a griller for barbecue. the upstair terrace is suitable for meditation, yoga, drawing, star watching, and moon rise\ sun rise et. there are mats that guests could use to lie down and gaze at the stars at night. in winter time, i provide small blankets to wrap around in the open air if guests like to do these activities. i don’t offer breakfast, but i provide a bottle of milk, tea, sugar, nescafe, and fresh herbs from the garden, also, oil, salt, pepper and rosemary from the garden and some fruits. the guests are also welcome to take what ever available at the time of their arrival, vegetables, salad and herbs, from the garden, for free. there are 2 fans in the house, celling one in the living room, a portable one in the bed room. no air conditioning, because no matter how hot it gets, the way the house is constructed make it cool inside, and generally the weather becomes nice and fresh towards early evening, and gets a bit chilly sometimes at night in the summer. the house is naturally well lit, from east and west mainly, the bed room gets light also from the south direction. guests are free to bring their own bed linen, towels, blankets, cooking pans if they prefer not to use what’s available in the house. there’s no parking place for guests, unless my car is not there. they can park on the main street, about 70 meters away from the house. the house is on the right side road, right after the atm machine when coming from gate of the village, so it’s very easy to find, and it’s the second house to the right of the side road. and this is generally a quite road, no traffic noise or hustle of cafes and shops. the guest house and open spaces are for the use of guests from check in time to check out time. i have some boxes, spare tyre and tools under the flight of stairs, and next to the wall of my house. privacy of guests is respected until check out time. i am always available for guests if they have questions, or need anything. check in time between 12.00 and 8.00 pm maximum. and please notify me of arrival time. check out at 11.00 am and i can allow for an extra hour. if guests want to stay a few more hours, they will be charged half the price of a night. as i am a pottery artist, i would gladly offer kids some of my pottery materials and few instructions on how to make beautiful things, for free, if they wish and if i have some free time. casa de sueños offers beauty and peace. it is private and quiet, suitable for meditation, writing and drawing. 7 minutes walking from lake qaroun where guests could walk or take a boat , near pottery shops, restaurants, horse riding. 20-30 minutes to rayyan water falls and the beautiful sand dunes of fayoum desert and the national natural park of wadi hitman, the whales valley.. as a host, i would be glad to welcome my guests, make them feel at home, and answer questions regarding the village life and culture. i can also help in organising desert trips. The guest house is constructed of stones from around the area, with wood ceilings that adds energy to the house. the house has a huge terrace with the lake view, other houses and some fields not far from the house, where you can relax, meditate, and enjoy the beauty all around, as well as a patio with a palm tree in the middle and a hammock, and a sitting area where you can have breakfast and feel at ease as well as bbq area where you can have dinner in the open air under the dome of the sky and stars. Guests are welcome to use some of the herbal plants in the garden. one final thing, much love and positive energy has been put in making the house, so i cherish my house so much. i hope the guests would feel the same way, love and cherish my house and treat it as their own. Guest access no parking in my complex unless my car is visiting the mechanic :) but guests could park on the main road leading to the house, about 70 meters away. everything guests may need, pottery shops, restaurants, swimming pools ( with day use charge) are all withing walking distance.
