Description

Wanting to visit Dublin but not stay in the city? Or prefer to stay and experience country Ireland? Then ours is the perfect place. Nestled exclusively by the national park in the Wicklow mountains we are a 60min drive to Dublin. Though in reality once at ours you are a world away in the peace, beauty and tranquillity of rural Ireland and its spectacular nature. Pet friendly. If you wish to bring a small/medium sized dog give details in booking request for pre-approval. The space Brocky Cabin hidden away by the side of the Wicklow Mountains National Park. A 60min drive from Dublin, yet a world away, deep in the peace and tranquillity of the beautiful Irish countryside. Part granite Georgian farm building, part contemporary timber cabin. Perfect for a long weekend, or a longer stay, to explore the surrounding mountains. It's ideally suited for a couples getaway. We use Air BnB ourselves, all over Europe and beyond. We enjoy the unique experience of staying respectfully in other people’s homes. We open our home to paying guests in the same spirit. Conventional stays in serviced apartments and hotels aren’t for us. We hope through pictures and text we attract like minded people to stay in our property. That you will enjoy the experience of staying in our home as we do others homes. At ours you will live as we live. Being our home it is a strictly NO SMOKING indoors policy. Strictly NO WET WIPES down the toilet in our home. Doing so causes much environmental damage and expense to us maintaining our septic tank. Please do not do this when staying at ours. Dogs: Pet friendly so if you wish us to pre-approve bringing one small to medium dog please give details in your initial booking request. Our country property is an ideal stay for anyone looking to relax and refresh themselves on a short break or for those who would like to experience Irish country living for a longer period. Since the nineteen twenties the buildings here have been passed through the hands of various artists, who drew inspiration from this truly magical environment. Our cottages aesthetic and decor reflects this. Don’t expect dishwashers, microwaves or broadband WiFi but to enjoy country-life! You will need to have a car to get to the property. KITCHEN/DINER and LOUNGE AREA: Once through the door you enter into the rustic split level open plan of the kitchen, dining and living area of the old granite farm building. The lower level for cooking, eating and passing time sitting around the kitchen table. The kitchen area has all you need to prepare food to eat. The windowed upper level lounge area with freeview TV, sofa and seating with a compressed wood briquettes/log fired stove is perfect and cosy for relaxing during your stay. We provide oil heating but you will need to bring your own briquettes, logs, firelighters if you wish to build a fire. Kindling sticks and twigs can be found all around. BEDROOM: The carpeted bedroom en suite with Super King Size bed is to be found in the timber cabin annex. From your bed you can enjoy the space and silence and just lie and stare in bliss through the big window to enjoy the mountains and trees outside. You may not want to get up and out! The perfect getaway treat. No shoes or dogs in the bedroom. EN SUITE BATHROOM: The spacious bathroom hosts a free standing bath and a separate walk in pressure pump shower. The bathroom also houses a washing machine and a tumble dryer. The copper turquoise stained corrosion on the bath is a deliberate and natural feature of this old bath tub.......it is pretty obviously that and not something we would take complaints about!! Under the bank of beech trees to the front of the cottage, is the Rock of Ages, a granite seat providing a good spot to face the sunsets. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: THERE IS NO WI-FI INSTALLED AND AVAILABLE IN THE COTTAGE. We like our home this way and guests coming to decompress say so to. A break away from busy working lives and cyber noise. 4G service provision to your phone, tablet or other device should be able to be received to go on line for the internet and emails etc if required. Or tether your laptop to your phone as we do. Mobile call reception is good. Guest access Guests have free reign of the cottage in its entirety and you are surrounded by the Wicklow Mountains national park to explore. Directly across the yard is our larger, unique and charming two bedroom Georgian granite cottage, a former gatekeepers house and our main home. We are to be found living in either one of the property's depending on visiting family, friends or Air BnB guests. www.airbnb dot com/h/brockycottage The inner yard area and extensive grounds are shared as you enter but there is plenty of space. **It is important to stress that due to the rural location of our home it is essential that guests will need to have their own transport** Plenty of parking space outside the cottage yard gates. PLEASE NOTE AGAIN: There is NO Wi Fi AVAILABLE. It is deliberate and we very happily live without it. This has never been a problem for our guests and certainly not those looking to have a break away from their busy working lives and cyber noise. There is good 4G mobile reception and one can tether this to other devices ie tablets, laptops etc This is what we do ourselves. Mobile call reception is good. Other things to note THINGS TO DO Twenty minutes or so of a short trek (seasonal bracken growth dependent) are small natural rock pools which you can sit in on a hot day and eventually a small 2/3 meter drop waterfall. Ask us for directions and don't forget sensible shoes and your towel. Perfect to cool down on a hot day or Ben also goes under the waterfall drop in winter for any similarly budding Wim Hofs! DUBLIN CITY CENTRE is only 60 minutes away by car, a surprising short distance considering our unspoiled location. Blessington town is a short ten minutes drive and contains all the necessary amenities and all the usual food and grocery stores. POULAPHOUCA LAKE is just over the mountain, with wind surfing and canoeing facilities - information available on an internet search. You also have the possibility of HORSE RIDING - local information available on an internet search. The abundance of mountainside and forest hinterland, make any stroll into a pleasurable one. SALLY GAP also allows avid hill-walkers to explore at a more challenging pace. We can provide a whole range of other local 'To Do' information on request. Just ask. Guests please note. We supply oil heating for the cottage. However if you wish to and are confident to build a fire in the living room stove you will need to bring your own small logs or compressed wood briquettes . We can't provide both oil and fire fuel. Wood logs, compressed wood briquettes and firelighters are available at stores and garages in Blessington. It is essential that COAL MUST NOT be used as fuel in the stove. The front gate to the driveway can remain open. A "Cabin Instruction Book" can be found on arrival detailing how to switch on hot water, heating if needed and various other basic household instructions.
