Description

My house is located on the Ondombo farm, typical of Namibia. The owners have German roots, the employees are mostly Ovambo and Herero. The farm is in operation and produces cattle, sheep, goats and charcoal. You have privacy through your own garden and fencing. The 12,500 ha farm can be explored on foot or by car, with sufficient orientation, also independently. Wildlife is everywhere and comes up to the fence. Hunting is possible by arrangement with the farmer The space The house was newly built in 2016. It has a large living room with sofa bed, 2 double bedrooms, open kitchen, large bathroom with toilet, utility room, terrace, garage with workshop, and fenced garden. Hot water from boiler or solar system. Native trees are planted all around. The farm buildings are accessed through a direct gate, the garden there is well maintained and can be used - like the pool. You can participate in the social life such as eating together in the Lapa and chatting by the pool, tours, hikes and hunting - but you don't have to. Colloquial languages are German, English, Afrikaans, Herero and Ovambo. Guest access Drive on the C33 tar pad from Omaruru about 45 km north. Then on the sand track D2338 to the left/west. This piece can be problematic in the rainy season because a river/dry river has to be crossed. After about 2km, turn right onto the Ondombo farm. Make yourself known at the entrance gate by calling. The dogs help with barking. Someone from the farm will come and take you to my house. There you can park in the courtyard or in the garage. You will then receive the keys and a briefing. If you have any problems, you will be helped. Other things to note Ondombo is a good starting point for excursions, e.g. to Etosha, Damara Land, Swakopmund, Caprivi, Waterberg or to the hinterland to Ugab, Vingerclip, etc. For shopping, you can drive 1/2 hour to the green town of Omaruru. There are shops, cafes, restaurants, clinic, German doctor, pharmacy, banks, garden center, wine cellar, etc. About 10 black families live and work on the farm next to the white owner family. There is a friendly and open-minded atmosphere. You quickly make contact and help each other. For example, when shopping, you take others with you and are taken along. Hunting is possible with a guide and for a fee. A hunting license is not required, but basic knowledge and handling of the weapon are checked. A weapon can be borrowed. Due to the altitude of 1600 m, Ondombo is malaria-free. On my walks around the farm, I have never had any problems with wild animals, even unarmed. They avoid people. The farm horses are a bit wild. If you want to ride, you have to catch one first. It's easier by car, but it should be an off-road vehicle.
