Historic River-View Charmer
Come relax in quaint Portland, Pennsylvania—minutes from the Appalachian Trail and directly overlooking the Delaware River. This historic home has been thoughtfully restored by NYC-based creatives for a retreat from hectic city life. Unplug and decompress in this stately home that dates back to 1850. Located just off Interstate 80 (90 minutes to NYC), this charming red brick house has 3 bedrooms equipped with full-sized beds, comfy linens, exposed beams and original wide-plank flooring. Collectors at heart, we outfitted the house with many pieces salvaged from homes of the mid-late 1800s, while adding some modern conveniences (including a Sonos sound system and Smart TV). Relax in our white-washed bathroom with antique claw foot tub and pedestal sink. Cook meal in our kitchen with farmhouse sink. Read a book on our oversized sofa. Sip some whisky in the backyard around a campfire or warm up inside by the wood stove. Our first home has brought us so much joy, we wanted to share it. 5 miles to Delaware Water Gap and Appalachian Trail, near Camelback Ski/ Camel Beach, 10 minutes to Shawnee, 20 minutes to Crossings Outlet and a short walk to general store, mini mart, post office, chocolate shop and thrift shop. We're located directly in front of the Delaware River in downtown Portland. There is WIFI, and TV with Roku for easy Netflix / HBO / Hulu viewing. Plentiful and free street parking, along with a private driveway. Although the house is private to you, we're reachable via email, phone and text for any needs. Portland is a quaint, tiny town established in 1876. Our home is located on a block of historic homes just along the edge of downtown, overlooking the Delaware River. Many folks come from all over NEPA and beyond to get a sunset view of the Delaware Water Gap from the Portland-Columbia pedestrian footbridge (located across the street). Summertime is perfect for tubing, fishing, canoeing/kayaking and hiking. Wintertime is perfect for card games and watching the trains pass by. 90 minutes to NYC, 50 minutes to Scranton, 20 minutes to Stroudsburg, just under 2 hours to Philadelphia. Martz Bus is the easiest public transit option—the station is 10 minutes from the house. Grocery store is just a 30-second walk downtown. We allow well-behaved, potty-trained dogs at a cleaning charge of $75 per pet. (Please inquire at booking.)
