Lovingly built for our family. Proudly shared with yours. Hummer Hill has a long history of hosting guests. When Glendale was first established, this lot was designated as a temporary home for visitors, emigrants and travelers. And while I'm not a native to this area, I was able to purchase the lot to build my family home. The home was remodeled in 2018 when I began hosting. The house is warm, bright and inviting and stocked for your needs. Beautiful views surround us here. The home can comfortably sleep 8 people. The master bedroom has a queen bed with an attached bathroom. The first bedroom has 2 twin beds and the second bedroom has a queen bed. These bedrooms share a bathroom. In the living room are two sofas that convert to beds. The kitchen is stocked with a standard compliment of pots, pans and dishes. We maintain a supply of coffee, tea and hot cocoa mix for you, along with a supply of common condiments and access to cleaning supplies if you need. There is a washer and dryer in the hall closet for your use. And if you have some extra time, we also have a game closet and a small library for your use as well. I maintain a supply of basic of common household needs. There are plenty of pillows and blankets and a change of linens if needed. There is a supply of laundry soap, toilet paper, dishwashing soap, etc. Hummer Hill is a comfortable place to stay for a few nights or a few weeks while you enjoy your visit to the area. I designed this space for the needs of my adult children and their families to stay with me and supplied it to make them comfortable. Hopefully it can accommodate your needs too. Outside, you have access to the entire yard. The most popular spot with our guests by far has been our firepit. We keep a pile of firewood for our guests. We also keep roasting sticks, so make sure you have marshmallows on your shopping list. A dinner of roasted hot dogs and s'mores always scores high marks from our youngest guests. We’ve got a nice back porch area that we are currently expanding. It has great views of cliffs that create the Paunsaugunt Plateau, which is the middle plateau of the Grand Staircase. The front porch provides a complete view of the valley that has been carved out by the Virgin River's East Fork. Either porch will pair perfectly with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. And from the front you enjoy a sweeping view of our humble hamlet, Glendale. Interspersed with apple orchards, workshops, alfalfa fields, barns and animal pens, Glendale is home to the descendants of the pioneers who settled in the area in the 1860s. Pace of life here is markedly slower than most of the United States. However local temperament is also much friendlier. Folks are incredibly willing to help a stranger or neighbor in need. It's a small, close-knit community with plenty of character and characters. I wouldn't want it any other way. Whether you like campfires or not, make sure to spend an evening in the backyard doing some stargazing. My young son once asked me "Dad, why is that same cloud there every night?" If the weather is clear, you can easily see the Milky Way with the naked eye, even on a full moon. We want to make sure you're comfortable and having a relaxing vacation. An inviting, clean place to stay is key to that. So if you need something, let us know. We'll do our best to make you comfortable. Glendale is a very small town. People are friendly and welcoming. If you wave, folks will wave back. As we're in such a rural area, agriculture is a big part of life in Glendale. You will see hay fields, corrals, barns and livestock. Sheep, chickens, donkeys, gardens, orchards... it's all there. It's small town Americana at it's finest. There is no public transport to the area or around the area. To access the National Parks from here, driving is a must. However, please be aware that certain areas of the National Parks can only be accessed by shuttle. Those restrictions can change based on seasonal or local conditions. Please use the National Park Service website for updated conditions at each of the National Parks. Locally, Glendale is a very walkable town. It is about 3/4 of a mile long and 1/4 of a mile wide. (Aproximately 1 km by 0.4 km.) Most of our guests wear themselves out hiking. But an evening stroll around town is a nice way to end the day. Hummer Hill has started to take on a life of it's own as a "home" for travelers in the area. I'm always amazed when guests notice something that would be nice for the home and they buy it and leave it here for everyone else. I've had repeat guests who say, 'there's just something about the place that brings you back, that lets you feel like you're coming home.' If you're looking for a place to be a part of your journey, hopefully Hummer Hill fits the bill.
