The Golden Hill Tree House is an urban oasis hiding in the branches of two mature trees in the heart of San Diego. While you enjoy elevated privacy you can also treat yourself to a soaker tub with double shower heads or settle down in a cozy reading nook to enjoy a good book! You'll also be walking distance to some amazing restaurants and super close to the best of San Diego, including downtown, the beach and the zoo! It's a perfect place to recharge after a long day of business or pleasure! The "Golden Hill Tree House" is the cozy eclectic Southern California version of a tree house, elevated between two mature 30 foot trees. To access the tree house you walk up an exterior stair case to a private second story deck, the spot where many guests welcome the day with a morning cup of coffee or relax at sunset with a glass of wine under a canopy of string lights. From the deck you enter the house through french doors. This main level includes a full kitchen, living area, laundry, bathroom and work desk area with high speed ethernet connection perfect for guests who are also working during their stay. The Tree House also has it's own exclusive wi-fi connection great for streaming to any personal device. The open layout incorporates tons of natural light, vaulted ceilings, views and a window niche great for cozying up with a good book or settling in for a comfy afternoon nap. The bathroom boasts a deep soaker tub designed for two and double shower heads as well, that all the guests love. The bedroom loft is up another set of stairs on the third level. The bedroom offers a peaceful retreat with views of downtown. Off the bedroom is a small nook with hand painted walls depicting ocean life and one of San Diego's historic land marks, the Point Loma Light House on Cabrillo National Monument. In case you forget to pack some reading material this nook includes a built-in shelf stocked with an abundant variety of books, novels and magazines. For your entertainment, there are a variety of board games, a stereo/CD player with Bluetooth connection, and a 43" smart TV with local and premium channel HBO, and a variety of our favorite DVD movies. The tree house is located on the second floor above our detached garage in the back end of the property. You can access the tree house staircase by either walking trough our front yard and past the right side of our house, or from the alley where you’ll find a steel gate with digital lock with four digit code that’s shared with guests a few days before their arrival. Just let us know in advance if you will be arriving after dark, so I can have a few lights turned on for you. Most guests prefer self check-in, but if I'm available, I'm always happy to walk you through the Tree House and give you the .10 cent tour:) We live in the front house with two children, so with our schedule it can be hard to find time to share a drink or hang out with guests, but we really do enjoy meeting our new visitors and sharing what we can about this wonderful city. Golden Hill is one of San Diego's more historic and architecturally eclectic zones, with many pre-1900 homes and apartments. In the 1910s, it became one of the many San Diego neighborhoods connected by the Class 1 streetcars. Today it is an eclectic mix of independent small retail shops, popular restaurants, coffee shops and hip bars. Almost everything is close enough to walk to, but rental bikes and now electric scooters have become an extremely popular way to tour our neighborhood and many parts of San Diego including South Park, North Park and downtown. Deco bike rental is located only a few blocks away, next to the Starbucks, and Bird and Lime bikes and scooters are scattered everywhere. To use this newest rage in alternative transportation just download their apps on your mobile device. If you're looking to venture to farther areas of San Diego you may consider renting a car since some parts of the region are more car-centric. Car2GO, Uber, Lyft and traditional taxis are all readily available. We are 2.5 miles from the heart of Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. 15 minutes to the beaches and Sea World. Also major bus lines are located within two blocks, trolley within 1 mile, the train within 2.5 miles and the airport is 10 minutes by car. Travel Distance / Times to Nearby Destinations: - Downtown / Gaslamp = 2 miles / 5 min - Balboa Park (Zoo) = 2.5 miles / 5 min - Convention Center = 3 miles / 10 min - SD International Airport = 5.5 miles / 13 min - Coronado Island = 6 miles / 13 min - Sea World = 9 miles / 15 min - Torrey Pines = 17 miles / 20 min - La Jolla Cove = 15 miles / 24 min - Safari Park = 32 miles / 35 min - Legoland = 35 miles / 40 min We are a within walking distance to several trendy cafes, restaurants and markets, and only three blocks to Starbucks. If your into golf, we are also less than 1 mile from the Balboa Park Golf course, with a 9 and 18 hole course. Clubs and carts can be rented at the pro shop. Be sure to check out our guidebook to some our favorite places in San Diego! Also a note, the bathroom is on the floor below the bedroom, so night time urges can be an inconvenient trip, especially for older guests.
