Description

Lovingly restored rustic 1790's Farmhouse, on three acres with a large (swimmable!) pond in back. The First floor is an open-plan layout, with beautiful Mid-Century Modern furniture and exposed beams. We are on a mountain so it's a bit cooler than surrounding areas, and it's perfect in the summertime. Kitchen is fully loaded! The space PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING! It is a very old house, hence nothing is level! People with mobility issues may want to look elsewhere. Cell phone reception is spotty at best in the area, but our wifi is really good. We are located on a main east- west route so there is traffic noise from trucks and motorcycles during the day, but it's quiet at night. Winter Guests! It can get very cold on the mountain. We try to clear any snow before guests arrive, but storms can come quick and hard, so you may have to clear a path to the door when you arrive. We have someone to plow anything over 2" in the driveway. Vermont is usually pretty great at plowing the main roads early and frequently, but at least once a year Rt. 9 gets shut down because of a storm. Sadly, our pond gets drained for the winter, so no ice skating. We were surprised by this last year, but the ice, apparently, has been damaging our neighbor's 19th century dam house. Our wood stove is top-notch. All you have to do is make sure that when you start the fire or re-load the stove, you press the button on the lower right side. It will turn green. If the light is green, or there is no light you're good. If the light turns red, it needs wood. The temperature for the stove is controlled by the thermostat in the livingroom. The stove keeps the living room, kitchen and the upstairs warm and cozy. If you load up the stove before you go to bed, you can easily start it up again in the morning. We also have forced air-propane heat, which is controlled by the thermostat in the first floor hallway. Please dial it back to 60 degrees when you leave. Lastly, but importantly, there is a vent from the basement to the left of the chimney. It's important that it is clear from snow. The people that plow keep an eye on it, but if you see that a snowdrift has covered it, please clear it, as the furnace will shut down and carbon monoxide may build up in the house. This happened once last winter when we were up there.
