The property is a small working family farm & is not in the city center. Madalena & Lajes are 15-20min. away & the point of the island is 25 minutes. There are no store fronts around, nature and rural lifestyle is our vibe. The home is a family run private vacation home, equipped w/modern conveniences. Perched on a hill with Northern views of the sparkling Atlantic & São Jorge island w/ East views encompassing sun dappled landscapes & redwood sprinkled hills. Trails are literally steps away. The space Getting Around: Renting a vehicle is highly recommend when visiting Pico. The island is very spread out and there many things to see and explore around the island. There are 3 main towns to visit, Madalena, Lajes and São Roque. We are a working farm, away from the city center, but we are 15 minutes to Madalena, 20 minutes to Lajes, and approximately 25 minutes to the point of the island. We are not centrally located in an area where there are store fronts. São Roque is the Rural tourism capital of all Portugal, nature and farm lifestyle is to be expected. The center of our town of São Roque is a 15-20 min walk or 2 minutes by car. The ferry dock (AtlanticoLine) has two locations on Pico, one is here in São Roque with limited schedules, the other is in Madalena. Interested in Local Recommendations? Our Story: Quinta Pereirinha Farm combines the warmth of authentic boutique-style accommodations, the comfort of modern amenities and the charm of Azorean landscape for an ambiance that is relaxed yet elegant. The quinta’s ruggedly romantic garden silhouettes tones of country life from bygone eras. The dedicated home was originally a grade school before turning into our traditional Azorean family home. Casa Pereirinha is named after my grandmother, Maria "Pereirinha". I would spend my childhood summers on Pico with my grandmother and would experience first hand how she opened her home to neighboring friends, family and new faces. She exuded pride and joy by sharing homegrown fruits, vegetables, fresh baked bread and homemade cheese with many who to this day talk about how generous and kind she was. My Partner Ricardo and I are new farmers and together we love to share our home and garden by curating the best stay and experiences for our guests. Our mission is to continue my Grandmother’s legacy by opening our home for others to enjoy. My great Grandfather was a blacksmith and the lava rock garage was his workshop. Beside Casa Pereirinha you'll see another traditional two story lava rock home built in the 1800's and was used as a barn and corn mill, also known as an "Atafona". Amenities: The home only has an AC/Heater in the common living area, but there are ceiling fans with 3 level settings in every bedroom + living room. The kitchen is updated with modern appliances, dish-washer, fridge with ice-maker. Enjoy dining al fresco on the terrace or in the garden under the trees. There’s an outdoor grill/bbq for self use. There are citrus fruit trees throughout the property for you to enjoy during fruiting season. The garden features private & semi-private spaces where you can relax under a tree, read a book or enjoy a picnic under a shady canopy. Our guests favor listening to singing birds and taking in some rays with an afternoon nap in the hammock. Parking/Check-in: For your convenience, parking is located onsite at the top of the red gravel driveway. Parking space is located directly in front of the black and white garage with bright red door. Street parking is available in front of the café at the roundabout (2 houses down). Check-in is fairly simple, we will greet you upon arrival between specified check-in time, personal tour of the property can be requested. For any questions, please DM or text if needed. Hiking: From the house there are several hiking trails that feature beautiful wild flowers, windy paths along farm fields and ribeiras/rivers. The natural swimming pools (poças) are down the street, approximately 1 km down the hill. The main road leading to the mountains and lakes is only 700M from the home. Although we are only a 10 - 15 min walk to center of Sao Roque we highly recommend renting a car to truly see the many natural saltwater pools, lakes, vistas and other gorgeous land marks to explore. We welcome you to relax in one of the hammocks in the garden. This way you will always be ready for the many perfect beautiful areas to swim in when exploring and ready for the occasional rain that may occur and disappear as fast as it came. Remember if you don't like the weather wait a few minutes and it may change. Unfortunately due to circumstances of health we cannot accept any kind of animal to stay within the home.
