● no reviews because of listing transfering ● “ATHENA” is an authentic, restored stone Cretan rural house built around 1850, a typical sample of 18th century rural folklore Cretan "kamarospito" (“arch house”) with a private yard and a view of the hills, valleys, vineyards and gardens. It is located in the oldest neighborhood of the traditional village Sitanos (distance from Sitia 19 Km – 620 m altitude) in eastern Crete in the heart of the “Natural Park of Sitia” for up to 4 people. The space Rural Residence “ATHENA” is built entirely with local stone which the original owners used centuries ago and it has been restored with respect to the tradition and culture of authentic Crete. A stone arch divides the ground plan into four autonomous areas, without disrupting the unity of the space. The areas are adjusted to the contemporary needs of accommodation preserving their original form and they include ● a sleeping area ● a fully equipped kitchen (oven, ceramic cooker, fridge, coffee maker, toaster, etc) ● a dining area ● a living room area with the authentic fireplace (which was used for heating and cooking) and ● a bathroom with a shower and a washing machine. A special feature of this house is the painting on the rock which is embedded to the stone wall of the house over the old “grape press” which has been transformed into a comfortable double bed. A handmade sofa transforms into a double bed in the living room area and two handmade wooden armchairs become a single bed in the sleeping area providing a hospitable shelter for friends and family. There is also a private yard with the necessary furniture, a desk, an ironing board, Internet Wi-Fi, etc. The stone walls keep the house cool in the summer, so air conditioning is not necessary. Staying in Rural Residence “ATHENA” allows the visitor to find peace and quiet in the semi-mountainous landscape of the countryside with a lot of marked hiking trails and to be just 25 to 30 minutes car-ride away from the fantastic beaches of Northern, Eastern and Southern province of Sitia (Kato Zakros, Xerokampos, Makry Gialos, Kouremenos, Chiona, Vai, etc). We provide for free towels and sheets. About 70 meters from the house there is a private parking area where guests park their cars. Mini market. The "belief" of the few inhabitants of the village of Sitanos is to share the products of my garden with my guests. There is a Mini Market 8 km away from the village, but the residents of the village and we personally can supply you whatever you need, if you ask us the day before. ***Activities: There are marked paths leading you to nearby villages and attractions.
