Sheltered Rest Cottage on Chesley Lake

Welcome to Chesley Lake! You will experience a restful vacation at this beautifully landscaped 6 bedroom, 1800 sq ft cottage with gorgeous sunset views! Relax on the deck overlooking the lake, suntan on the patio by the water, kayak or canoe on the calm water during the peaceful morning hours, warm up in the hot tub on cool summer evenings or enjoy a family campfire roasting marshmallows. There is something for everyone at Sheltered Rest! The space The open concept design of the main living area makes for easy entertaining and socializing. The kitchen has all the amenities needed for the cook of the family and the dining room table seats 8 people comfortably, with seating for 4 more people along the peninsula. The spacious, open living room has a large screen satellite TV (with Apple TV option for those with an account) and in the basement the rec room has a smart TV allowing for multiple entertainment options on rainy days. The large deck off the kitchen/dining area is a perfect spot to relax overlooking the lake. When the temperatures cool down you can warm up in the 8 person hot tub. At the shoreline there is a large dock. Canoe, kayaks, SUP and life jackets are conveniently located in the boathouse by the water. This is a "soft bottom" lake and it has vegetation that covers the bottom of the lake in the summer. There are stones by the shore which can be slippery as well, making it difficult for wading, but the water is fine for swimming above the vegetation and we have a floating dock with an anchor that you can take out to the deeper water and use for diving. The area along the shoreline is covered with patio stones providing lots of room for lounging around and soaking up the sunshine. There is also a free-standing metal fire pit in this area for warming up on cool summer nights. Firewood and kindling are provided and can be found in the boathouse. The cottages along this stretch of the lake are close together, so guests really do need to respect the privacy of others and not disturb the neighbours who are also enjoying their surroundings! Sound travels incredibly well over water, so please keep that in mind when you are spending time by the water. Our municipality is very strict about enforcing it's noise bylaws, so they take complaints very seriously. Also note that fireworks are generally NOT allowed. They are only permitted on Victoria Day and Canada Day and the day preceding those holidays. ***Please note we only take week long bookings (Saturday to Saturday) from the end of June to the beginning of September. Also note that the Occupancy taxes and fees include 13% HST and a 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax - two taxes which we are required by law to charge to all our guests. In the off season (Sept to June) we can be quite flexible with check-in and check-out times. We will message you with the adjusted times. It is really only in the summer (July and Aug) when we need to strictly adhere to the posted times since we need all that time to get the cottage clean again before the next guests arrive! Winter Note (late November to early March): The winter maintenance on the road to the cottage is arranged by the owners of the cottages along the road, and it is cleared by a tractor and snow blower once per day in the morning, if necessary. Usually the road is fine, but it can blow in during snowstorms so snow tires and/or all wheel drive are good to have! (And if the road does blow in with snow, it won't be cleared again until the following morning.) There are two parking areas at the cottage, in front of the cottage for approximately 3 vehicles and at the top of the driveway by the road for approximately 3 vehicles. Please note that once there is a significant amount of snow or if the driveway is too icy, parking becomes limited to the area at the top of the driveway. The driveway to the cottage is short, but somewhat steep, so only all wheel drive vehicles should attempt to park down by the cottage in the winter.
