Description
The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario is pleased to offer the rare opportunity for guests to sleep in a caboose for an authentic railroader experience. Curl up in our comfortable pull-down beds with fresh linens and relax in the quiet glow of the lantern. This plywood Caboose was built in postwar 1945. *Please note this is not a hotel but a unique glamping experience.* The space The inside of the Caboose is outfitted with electricity, wired lighting and an air conditioner, yet still has the original layout. This includes three fold-out beds, an elevated look-out called a "cupola", a writing desk, a coal stove (but please don't use it) and a sink with a water tank. The stove and water tank are not operational. The photos on the walls are of local railway workers of the past and are from our own collection. Steps from the caboose, our guests can access our museum station with a newly updated kitchenette including a sink, fridge and microwave, toaster, kettle, and Nespresso machine. Two bathrooms inside the station feature a newly tiled shower and include shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Guests will also have access to our Baggage Room which features an 8 seating dining table, smart tv, and train and lego tables for the kids to enjoy. Plenty of additional picnic tables and benches are available on the covered Breezeway porch and the grounds. NOTE: This caboose is 80 years old, was a working rail car for 30 years and is considered an artifact of the museum. Although it is thoroughly cleaned, restored and repainted, each caboose should be expected to have unique imperfections. Guest access The main part of our museum will be locked up for the night at 5:15 pm but the kitchenette, bathrooms and Baggage Room common area will remain open to our guests for the evening. Guests are welcome to explore the museum property and grounds after we have closed. Other things to note Much care and love has gone into restoring this 100 year old caboose. This authentic experience is dearly loved by many but does come with its' own unique imperfections that are expected with its' age and use.
