Description

Vintage hardware, stained glass transom, hardwood floors, large fireplace but new stainless steel kitchen appliances & gutted/new bathroom. Decor, tile work, etc, is a mix of early mid-century modern and Moorish-Andalusian. Backyard fire pit. The space This is a vintage home in rehab was completed in spring 2014, featuring a study upstairs, a huge master bedroom downstairs with sitting area and desk, an equally huge bathroom the size of an ocean liner cabin with a very high level of finish featuring rubbed bronze fixtures, copper sink, tumbled granite mosaic floor (see the photos). The kitchen has chopping block wood (but use a chopping board please) and granite counters along with a granite island with bar stools. The living room features leather furniture arranged about a large fireplace (original to the house) with wall woodwork about the stair leading upstairs. Flat screen. The dining area is in a sunroom with a pass-through opening to the kitchen. An odd transitional central room off the foyer now features a bumper pool table for your amusement (yes, they still exist!); French doors lead from the area to the huge master bedroom. Off the kitchen is a breakfast nook sitting area leading to the back patio protected by a 10' overhang with a new gas grill. The backyard itself features a sunken fire pit with an old tree stump wrapped around it and "cornhole" set up further back along a hibiscus grove. The view is seemingly endless into woods as there are no other houses, as the vista looks up the heavily wood rail right-of-way. The neighbor immediately to the east across the wooded tracks is undoubtedly the number 1 attraction besides the lake: Greenbush Brewery. The tracks...Amtrack runs by around three times a day (but for a total of 3 seconds at a time) while freight trains come by twice or so and last 2 to 3 minutes. If you can handle the train crossings for around a total of 10 minutes of your day (and this same rail line runs through New Buffalo, etc., so no real way to totally avoid it), then you will love being here...I think of the train as part of the "charm" of small town America. Guest access The whole house is yours. Check in is anytime after 2PM; check-out is by noon, but please feel free to leave your car(s) in the drive if you are staying around town for lunch (e.g., next door at the brewery); if you need to make different arrangements for check-in/out, please explain that in inquiry. Other things to note If you are a moderate to serious bike rider there are all kinds of places to ride to - the ride south down Elm St. to Three Oaks is pretty with rolling land (in Three Oaks are more art galleries, places to eat and even a whiskey distillery in an old warehouse - Journeyman).
