Description

Welcome to Nyumba Ya Madau, a Swahili-style beachfront villa on a pristine white sandy beach protected by a coral reef. It’s the perfect place to unwind, sleeping up to 10 guests (plus 2 kids). Enjoy ocean views that shift with the tides—walk along the sandbank at low tide, swim or snorkel, take a boat ride, or kitesurf at high tide. The villa sits in a secure 24/7-guarded compound with a private terrace pool and a shared pool. Your stay includes a chef and staff to fully relax and enjoy Watamu. The space Nyumba Ya Madau – Swahili-Style Beachfront Villa in Watamu Nyumba Ya Madau sits on a beautiful and remote white sandy beach on the northern side of Watamu, protected by a coral reef. The villa offers ever-changing ocean views and a lovely breeze from the veranda. We recently completed a major renovation, including a stunning new ocean-view terrace pool—perfect for relaxing or playing, and added solar panels to ensure a steady provision of power and hot water. The villa is within a secure, 24/7-guarded compound that also features a larger shared swimming pool just behind the house. Free Wi-Fi is available, though we encourage guests to disconnect and make the most of their time in this peaceful paradise. Nyumba Ya Madau is ideal for families and friends seeking relaxation and adventure. Enjoy long walks on the beach and sandbar at low tide, swim and snorkel at high tide, or explore nearby activities like kitesurfing, bodyboarding, dhow trips, dolphin watching, and birdwatching at Mida Creek. You can also visit the nearby Arabuko Sokoke Forest—professional guides can be arranged. The villa has 5 double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The master suite includes an adjacent kids’ room, ideal for families with small children. Four rooms feature king-size beds, one has twin beds, and extra beds and a baby cot are available. Each room is uniquely designed: three have ocean views, while two open onto our serene “Lamu court,” a courtyard with palms and bougainvillea. Three rooms have A/C, and all have ceiling fans within the mosquito net and enjoy the cooling ocean breeze. At the entrance, you’ll find a lush garden and a children’s play area. Upstairs, a balcony with a stunning ocean view is perfect for relaxing or enjoying a massage, and work if you really need to! (Note: one locked room upstairs belongs to the owner.) Your stay includes our wonderful staff and a trained chef, skilled in Italian, Swahili, and international cuisine. Staff work 8-hour shifts—please coordinate with them directly and offer tips if longer hours are required. The chef can shop before your arrival and prepare daily fresh seafood and meals from our printed kitchen menu. We highly recommend trying our local favorites: crab or vongole linguine, raw fish, fish and chips, gnocchi, fried seaweed, chapati, and chocolate mousse. Since 2020, a few beach bars have opened nearby—please let the staff know if music becomes a disturbance. 🌿 Our Eco-Friendly Commitment We care deeply about the environment and appreciate your support for our sustainability practices: Powered by solar energy – please conserve electricity and switch off A/C or lights when not in use. We use eco-friendly cleaning products (vinegar & lemon) and locally made non-chemical soaps. Towels and sheets are changed only when needed to save water. Plastic-free policy: please avoid small bottles. We provide a dispenser and 20L refillable bottles. Composting area is available for food waste. Please help keep the beach clean—a bin to collect plastic from the beach is provided. Do not remove shells or corals. We collaborate with the Malindi & Watamu Marine Parks to protect wildlife, including turtle nesting. Birdwatching is encouraged—guides from the Arabuko Sokoke Forest are available. Guest access The house is accessible from the main gate at Nyumba Baharini compound, and you can park just outside the house in safety. The house is 6 km away from Watamu town and 15 km from Malindi. Other things to note The house is away from Watamu center, and local transport needs to be organised for outings and dinner outside. Extra activities and special events can be organised.
