Private & secluded Smallwood cabin sleeps 6. See & Hear the stream flowing when you pull up. Large great room with fireplace & windows overlooking backyard stream. 1 master bedroom, 1 separate guest room, 1 open sleep loft (2 twin beds). Enjoy evenings on the deck, or by the outdoor fire pit listening to the stream that leads to a small waterfall. Enjoy the swim pit right in your backyard! Outdoor Shower! Close to Bethel Woods, hiking & White Lake dining. Minutes to Toronto Reservoir. Location is private & secluded on a dead end street & you will hear the stream the moment you arrive in the driveway. You are surrounded by views of the woods & the stream. Outdoor shower is functional from about May 1st through October 15th. Walk the stone path right in your backyard down to the swim pit. Take a walk along the stream to a waterfall right from the backyard. Follow the stone path down to the stream and hang out with the water flowing next to you! It's a great spot to just sit in the flowing water on a hot day... I often prefer it the actual lake beach! Two outdoor fire pits (one closer to house and one down by the stream). The Smallwood Forest Reserve is right across the stream & great for a hike/walk. Have a dog? They are welcome! Visit the new dog park (it's huge)! The dog friendly beach is at the Toronto Reservoir (about a 8 minute drive.. open to all). Explore the woods around the house, along the stream, & across the stream (public land...Forest Reserve). The house has a big deck & separate firepit area on the lawn where you can see & hear the stream. The deck has a couch, table, chairs and grill. A dishwasher, washer/dryer, Cable TV & WiFi make this is a great "work from home" location or a great place for an extended stay. There is a grill on the deck for BBQ's, and a firepit overlooking the flowing stream in back. Guests access the cabin via key in the lockbox by front door or the cohost can meet them, if desired As needed / desired by the guests Funky old lakeside community built in the 1930s and rediscovered by weekenders. Catskills Sullivan County is brimming with great hiking, fishing, local distilleries and farm-to-table eateries. A perfect getaway about 90 minutes from NYC. Sometimes the best part of living in NYC area is the ability to escape from it on a regular basis. Below is a list with mileage from my location to each venue so you can learn more on your own. The cabin's BACKYARD! You are on a flowing stream that has a swim pit in the backyard and you can walk to the waterfall! It's also wonderful to just sit in the flowing water (in a chair or right on the smooth rock bottom). Smallwood Forest Preserve. Right across the stream in the backyard! Hike the trails, or better yet bring your water shoes and hike the stream itself. Mountain Lake. Walkable from cabin, this is a private membership only lake, but guests are welcome to walk around it and take in the scenery! Toronto Reservoir. About a 10 minute drive from cabin, this lake is open to all and dog friendly. Sand is a little rocky so we recommend bringing water shoes. Lake Superior State Park. About a 10 minute drive/6 miles away. Beaches, fishing, boat launches & picnic areas. Swinging Bridge Reservoir. About a 15 minute drive away. Great place to rent a pontoon boat for the day. White Lake/Kauneonga Lake Boat launch. About 5 minutes away. Another place to also rent a pontoon boat for the day! The Bethel Woods Center for Performing Arts is approximately 5 miles away. Concerts and festivals, a great Woodstock tribute museum, and food/wine/artisan local goods sold via outdoor farmers markets on Sundays through the fall. Check their website for details. The Kartrite Indoor Water Park w/full spa and varied dining options - 11 miles from the cabin - largest indoor water park in NY. Monticello Motor Club for a unique off-roading experience, go karts, racing and more - 10 miles away. Resort World Casino is about 10 miles away. Full resort and casino with table gambling, restaurants, entertainment, etc. Catskills Visitor Center Visit to get expert info on area sightseeing, and take in some scenic vistas while you’re there. Pick up brochures, stroll short walking looped trails dotted with sculptures. Open daily. 5096 Rte 28 Mt. Tremper NY - call for hours HIKING & OUTDOORS (My favorites) Willowmoc Wild Forest - Livingston Manor, NY: 28 miles away - more than 40 miles of trails to explore. Kaaterskill Falls - 81 miles away but definitely worth the trip. A two-stage waterfall on Spruce Creek 260 feet high in the Eastern Catskills (Greene County). Please read the guide carefully before hiking there. The round trip hike is 2 miles but very challenging. Indian Head Wilderness - 62 miles away in Saugerties and Woodstock. Rugged topography. 5 major peaks. The Long Path hits all 5. Overlook Mountain Wild Forest -60 miles away in Woodstock NY has a historic fire tower and a mountain house in ruins to check out. My favorite restaurants: closest venues are listed first. • Bethel Market Café - 17B, two miles west of Smallwood on the right side. Situated in a large red barn-like structure with white columns out front, BMC is perfect for breakfast and their baked sweets are wonderful. Local family owned/operated. • The Old Foundation in Kenoza Lake. Great spot for dinner, often has live bands Saturday nights. • Local Table & Tap - 2.5 miles - at 3 Horseshoe Lake Rd Lake Kauneogua. American bistro style menu served up on beautiful White Lake. Interesting cocktails. • Hennings Local. Great spot on the nicer side with locally sourced food! • The Eldred Preserve. About 8 miles away. Beautiful, stunning grounds (they do weddings there). Worth a visit just to see the grounds and enjoy a cocktail. Also a "fancy pants" place for dinner (al fresco an option) at the Homestead Restaurant main dining room or just hang out in the bar/lounge area if feeling a bit less formal. • Collosseo - 7 miles at 11 Raceway Rd. Monticello for Italian w/friendly service. Classic NY Pizza. Brother Brunos. Italian restaurant & pizzeria only about 3 miles away. 951 Route 17b • Benji & Jakes - best pizza in the area if you want fancy pizza and cool toppings. • Monticello Bagel Bakery - 475 Broadway in the Monticello center of town area. I crave these! About 7 miles away • DiFillippo’s Bakery on Broadway in Monticello is close by across the street. Two thumbs up. • Yianni’s Greek Restaurant - no alcohol license here so bring your own if you want to drink. Located just off Broadway by the police station. • Cochecton Fire Station- 14 miles away on 1 Depot Rd is a unique dining experience. They do a limited menu but they do it well. GREAT for cocktails at the bar as well! • The DeBruce Hotel - 26 miles - a bit of a drive but worth the effort. The chef has won many awards and the grounds are quite beautiful. Last but not least for shopaholics: Woodbury Common Premium Outlets - just under an hour from the cabin, in NY’s Central Valley. Plan a stop en route to Catskills or on the way home, like I do. Best to have a car. There is a bus that runs to/from Port Authority in Manhattan to Monticello (about 6 miles from cabin). There is a train that goes to Middletown & or Port Jervis (each about 30 minute drive from cabin). These options make it is possible to pick up/drop off anyone who wants to join or leave early! The 3rd bedroom is a sleep loft with two twin beds that is open to/overlooks the living room. The outdoor shower is functional from about May 1st through about October 15th. Mountain Lake (the Smallwood private lake) is reserved for full time residents only, but The Toronto Reservoir is close by (and dog friendly). Lake Superior State Park is another option. For boat rental, White Lake and Swinging Bridge lake are options. But remember the best part is that you have the flowing stream in your backyard with a swim pit... you don't need to go to the lake!
