SHUWARI is a typical historical Swahili house: one large room (double row of beams, 4 alcoves) and the master bedroom, inside. Suitable for 5 to7 guests. Ideal for a family. Access to the roof top terrace, for having meals and rest, enjoying the breeze. A small, modest, simple but tidy, pleasant & comfortable house, self contained. Ngema, in attendance, keeps & cleans the house. He can cook & do the laundry (private arrangement). The space You can find huge, magnificent, luxuriously renovated houses in Lamu or Shela. SHUWARI is simple and modest, but cosy. Only one ground floor and roof terrace. A small but lush garden. No breathtaking view, but the breeze cools the roof top terrace and makes it a nice place to rest or chill. You could hope being nearer the beach. But after dawn, you can easily walk to the sea front, walk along the busy streets, mingle with the very friendly Lamu people. Enjoy sophisticated (delicious) local Swahili food. SHUWARI allows you to enjoy the whole of Lamu life. Guest access Shuwari is a few hundred meters from the jetty, in a quiet area of Lamu. In Mkomani, the core of the old Town. From the sea front, enter the street next to the Donkey Sanctuary, cross the Main Street up till you turn right after Stone House. Just another 50m, there you are. The beach starts from Shela, 3 km from the town. A nice 20mn walk along the sea shore. But you can also take a boat, many are available. On request, a fishing trip, or sunset sailing, or a visit to places like Takwa ruins, Matondoni or Manda Toto can be arranged for you. Or more special programs. Other things to note As previously mentionned, SHUWARI HOUSE is ideal for a family : the parents enjoy the privacy of Ndani ("inside", the Master bedroom) while the children sleep, secure, in the various beds of the alcoves in the main room. A larger group can be accomodated in that space. In case of need for more privacy, two annex rooms, self contained, can be provided. The price will be negociated according to the number of the party (up to 17 people can comfortably sleep in SHUWARI !!).
