Description

Built circa 1870, Poliska House has recently undergone extensive renovation and restoration. The house is located in the quaint village of Clonbur in Connemara, between the two great lakes Lough Corrib and Lough Mask, and is surrounded by stunning lake, mountain & woodland scenery. It is the perfect base from which to explore an area of un-spoilt natural beauty. This includes the beautiful native woodlands, mountain walks, biking trails, horse-riding, lake activities and fishing. The space Inside: There are 4 bedrooms in total and 3 bathrooms. 3 bedrooms are upstairs (with 1 ensuite), and 1 bedroom is downstairs. There is a large kitchen area with a dining table that can sit 10 people. There is also a peninsula with high chairs for more casual dining closer to the kitchen. There is a study with a desk for those who may need to work from home. The large utility room has a drying area for clothes and for overalls (e.g. for fishing or hiking gear) as well as a sink, tap and worktop. The sitting room has a wall length sliding glass door that opens out to the patio area in the garden. Outside: The house has a big garden to enjoy. There is an old stone farmyard beside the house, as well as a large area for parking cars or for sitting outside and enjoying the views. The gardens have recently been landscaped. Other things to note History of the House and it's connection to Lord Ardilaun of Ashford Castle: The house was built by Lord Ardilaun of nearby Ashford Castle for Doctor John Hegarty. Dr Hegarty lived in the house as a tenant until Lord Ardilaun's death in 1915. Then, Dr Hegarty became the owner of the house as Lord Ardilaun left the house and land to him in his will. Dr Hegarty lived in the house with his family until the early 1920s, serving the local community from his dispensary. Dr Hegarty’s wife, Blanche, was a keen gardener and is credited with being the first to cultivate the famous “Hegarty Lily” in the gardens at Poliska. She won an award of merit for it in 1912. Dr Hegarty sold the house to the Lynch family in the early 1920s and it has been in the Lynch family ever since.
