Coati Cabin is a quaint, clean, and comfortable wooden cabin with a large deck overlooking the Maya Mountains and lush jungle that can host up to 5 people. Shared showers, toilets, and kitchen are detached from the cabin. The beds can be arranged bunk- style or the upper bunks folded up against the walls and the two single beds made into a King for couples. Coati Cabin is a single unit and does not share a deck with another cabin, making it ideal for couples wanting their privacy. The space Our jungle cabins are situated on a gorgeous 200-acre property comprised of tropical rainforest and organic orchards which boast abundant plant and animal life and a gorgeous small river that runs through the property with refreshing swimming holes just a five minute walk through the orchard from your cabin! We are promoting a new culture of sustainable tourism and community living for people that want to get a taste of living and working together at our operational biology field station and organic farm. We welcome one and all, from individuals to families, though minimum length of stays are one week. In exchange for low priced accommodations, our visitors help us keep our space beautiful and our research, education, and farming projects ongoing by participating in daily community service volunteer hours (4-5 hours per day). We have a vast trail network, including a long hiking trail (5 – 6 hour return trip) that leads into the Sibun Forest Reserve and up to a beautiful 3-tiered 300 ft waterfall (currently only accessible by guided hike, $50 US/person). Longest non-guided hike available currently is a 2-hour loop that passes through a gorgeous gorge along Dry Creek with ample swimming opportunities. The property is operated as a research and education center and organic farm and although many of our clientele are student research groups, we also welcome anyone that desires to experience what it is like to live and explore at an active biological field station and organic farm! We also have a bush guide on the premises and licensed guides nearby who can lead you in any activity you desire, both on-site and to surrounding locations for cave tubing, cave kayaking, climbing, wildlife viewing, sailing, beach trips, snorkeling on the Barrier Reef.....you name it! Our Society operates many community development programs as well, so if you would like a taste of both the wildlife and the culture of Belize, you are in for a treat if you decide to book a cabin at our location. Our Wifi network is limited to 100 mb per day of free wifi. The Wifi is only available in the main building and not in our cabins. If you need Wifi in your cabin and/or more data, please ask us in advance and we will offer you suggestions of how this may be possible with our local internet service providers. Guest access Communal spaces include a yoga platform, a shared kitchen and dining hall, dry lab, and free limited WiFi is available in our lounge. Free and secure self-parking is also provided. Two of our rooms offer en-suite full private bathrooms and kitchens/kitchenettes and other cabins have access to shared toilets, showers, and kitchen for self-catering. Meals are available from our restaurant upon advance request for a minimum party of 4. During your stay We are a mostly self-serve facility. Although we have staff on site to assist you as needed, we expect our guests to be fairly self-sufficient. Ideally you will want to help contribute to our mission by helping out on our organic farm, engage with us in biology field work, and/or in our community programs! Other things to note Though we do supply towels for all guests, we do not supply shampoo and conditioner or body soap. Showers are hot/cold, and toilets are flush toilets. Both buildings are shared with other guests. We have three listings, The Casita, Mayflower, and Jaguar House, that have a private bathroom as well as private kitchens/kitchenettes. Purified drinking water is available at several locations throughout the property for all guests from our well and UV-filtration system. We are a pet-friendly location! Just please notify us in advance if you intend to bring your pet as we do have five dogs and three cats, and we will need to make advance arrangements to make sure everyone gets along. Though lodging can be paid through Airbnb, any other add-ons such as daily shared kitchen fee ($5 US/day/party), beverages (beer and soda), gift shop purchases, and guided tours and activities can be paid on-site in cash or credit card.
