Skarðás Country Cabins

We have three brand new two bedroom cottages that each can sleep up to six people. The cabins are ideally located in a quiet location on the Skarðás Ridge on a small farm only 6Km south of the town Egilsstaðir. All our cabins are warm and cozy, centrally heated with geothermal heating so they can be booked throughout both summer and winter. They are an excellent place to stop and relax if you are travelling through East Iceland The space Our cabins all offer two bedrooms, bathroom and a well equipped kitchenette with all the equipment needed to cook a home cooked meal. In addition, we have a double bed sofa in the living room when fitted with the supplied mattress, can sleep two people comfortably. All linen, towels, soap and shampoo is provided free of charge, so is coffee, tea, milk, sugar and other consumables. There is a flatscreen TV with free cable channels, a DVD player, free Wi-Fi, books and boardgames for those long dark nights during the Icelandic winter. We also offer an outdoor barbeque and outdoor seating for those sunny summer days Guest access The Skarðás Ridge is in the land of the farm Unalækur 6km south of Egilsstaðir along the #1 Ringroad to Reykjavík. It is a quiet location with beautiful views, especially towards the south where Mount Snæfell can be seen rise above the lake Lögurinn. Only 2km up the road from our cabins are some active farms, one of which has a horse rental and offers guided horse tours. Some 22km south along road 931 is the forest Hallormsstaðaskógur on the banks of lake Lögurinn with some wonderful hike tracks and various amenities. In autumn, the locals flock to Hallormsstaður to pick blueberries and mushrooms that grow wild there and visit some of the local restaurants for a nice meal. The nearby town Egilsstaðir offers supermarkets, restaurants and other amenities and is located on crossroads towards all the neighbouring towns. It also has a swimming pool heated with geothermal water, hot tubs and a gym. The area has salmon and trout fishing in various lakes and streams and a number of walking and hiking tracks. In autumn and winter, you often see Rock Ptarmigans in the quiet parts of the Skarás Ridge and Reindeer can also be seen during snowy winters. It is an ideal location to stay and catch views of the Northern Lights dance across the Winter Night Sky.
