Our home,a working sheep farm is nestled below Ireland's highest mountains on the famous Kerry Way trail in the heart of the McGillyCuddy Reeks.The original buildings date back to 1802 and were some of the last in Ireland to receive electricity due to their remote location in one of Ireland’s most unspoiled valleys on the edge of the Killarney National Park.While the towns of Kenmare & Killarney are an hour’s drive away,the Cottage is suited to those who are keen to truly get away from it all... The space Located in the remotest part of The Black Valley surrounded by Ireland's highest mountains and a landscape that is wild and inspiring.. This converted stone farm building with open plan design is perfect for a romantic getaway, a trip with a friend or come and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet all to yourself. Through the traditional stable door the Cottage boasts a neat kitchen and wc/shower room, living area with wood burning stove and a mezzanine double bedroom accessed by a custom built ladder staircase.  There is also a double sofa bed downstairs for you to fall asleep by the fire if you wish.  We provide a basic welcome pack of homemade soda bread, butter, jam, milk, sugar, teas, coffee, olive oil, salt and pepper. A full basket of firewood, sticks and starter pack also provided. The original buildings date back to the early 1800's but have been renovated to a high standard using local materials and in keeping with the traditional cottage style. The cottage is located on our 1200acre farmland including a private lake. Guests are free to roam the landscape at their leisure. There are three other cottages onsite, two are occupied by family members but your accommodation has its own private access, parking and garden space so privacy is ensured. There is limited mobile phone service onsite but the Cottage has a high-speed broadband connection. Guest access The cottage is entirely yours for the time you are here, As are the hills, rivers, fields and lake for you to explore. You have freedom to roam but please do be cautious on the hills if you are not familiar with this type of terrain and bring appropriate footwear for hiking. I encourage guests to spend time outdoors in nature and connect to themselves and the landscape. The only areas which are not available for guests to explore our the farm sheds. This is for safety reasons. Other things to note We recommend that guests arrive in daylight as we are only accessible by a single lane mountain track.
