Description
Villa Martel is situated 5 minutes drive from Apia town on the banks of Fuluasou River in a private gated family compound. A closed-canopy forest of fu'afu'a trees act as a natural coolant for the Villa as it completely blocks off the afternoon sun's hot rays. The Villa is a double storey building (upstairs not rented out) with vaulted bamboo-ply clad ceilings, large open spaces and spacious private quarters. A seam-less indoor-outdoor design flow makes the Villa truly welcoming. The space The Villa is a peaceful haven within the town area of Apia and is 5 minutes drive from the CBD. Francois always dreamt of a beautiful tropical home and the Villa is the culmination of that dream. For 12 months in 2002, we sketched, measured, argued, drank wine, and pegged the land to get a feel for what we wanted in our home. There was one common factor we both agreed on; that our home had to feel inviting to visitors with an indoor-outdoor living, open, high vaulted ceilings, like in a Samoan 'fale', so that we wouldn’t need air-conditioning. With Zita's love of bold colours the Villa became her canvas influenced by the beautiful gardens of Samoa and the years living in the colourful Caribbean island of St Lucia. Francois with his love of experimental French-fusion cuisine meant his kitchen became the hub around which the flow of dining, indoor-outdoor living took place and is always cooled by the easterly breeze. The setting is both secluded and private but also warm and welcoming. Our 4 sons have left home and through Airbnb, we want to share our home with travelers who seek something unique and different for their journey to Samoa. We hope that you enjoy our home as much as we enjoyed designing, building and raising our family of four sons in it. Zita is Samoan and was born and raised on the family compound where the Villa is located while Francois is French-Canadian from Montreal, Quebec. Guest access Guests will have access to the whole downstairs area of the house which houses 2 ensuite bedrooms, 1 separate toilet, 2 private lounges, the Pasefika Room, large open living lounge with formal dining area, kitchen with adjoining outdoor verandah and dining area, office space and laundry. The upstairs is off-limits. During your stay Zita will be around when she's on island, and she will assist when needed by Guests. When she is not on island, we have a lady who has been with our family who looks after the villa and will be able to assist when needed. Other things to note Our water resources on the islands is precious and we ask our Guests to be mindful in turning off the taps properly and conserve water. The hot water system in the house is solar heated and if it rains consistently for more than 4 days, the water will not be as hot. The large private compound within which the villa is located houses three homes with the fourth one being the Villa at the end of the property. Please read the Villa Manual on arrival - it has all the procedures for a happy and informed stay.
