Almonte Downtown Waterfront Loft in Historic Mill

Gorgeous 375sq ft loft in Almonte's historic award-winning restored Thoburn Mill. On the Mississippi River and in the center of the quaint downtown. Enormously comfortable loft on the second floor of an adult building. 2-week minimum stay. The space Your space is a comfortable 375 sq. ft. studio loft on the second floor of an adult building (children welcome but guests must realize it's a quiet adult-oriented building). It consists of a well equipped full kitchen, small dining area overlooking the river and the historic Old Town Hall as well as comfortable sitting area with latched windows opening onto a small Juliette balcony for wonderful summer breezes and the sound of the upper falls in the background. The sleeping area contains a comfortable queen size bed with blackout blinds, full sized dresser and two night stands. A wall mount television can be positioned for viewing in bed or tilted to view from the sitting area. The three piece bathroom with shower is spacious and well equipped with hair dryer, soap, shampoo and luscious towels. Guest access Outside... Steps from the back door you can stroll through the small garden which contains some artifacts from the Mill and connects to Almonte Riverwalk. A serene boardwalk that meanders from the Old Town Hall (visible from your Kitchen window) past the old Flour Mill, Iron works (now Barley Mow restaurant - excellent patio for a pint), Victoria Woollen Mill ending in Metcalfe Geoheritage Park where you can sit in a community gazebo (currently under construction) or launch your kayak for a paddle to the small village of Blakeney upriver. Other things to note History: Thoburn Mill is located over the upper set of falls, Shipmans Falls, in Almonte. Over the years Shipmans Falls has powered a sawmill, a grist mill, and from (phone number hidden) the mill operated primarily as a woolen mill producing gray flannel. Since 1956 it has been repurposed for various businesses including some I fondly remember. Almonte's first Gym (now located on Ottawa street) was located in the back of the Mill overlooking the falls. The industrial space was a great place to work out and I do think I have never been in better shape than the years I worked out there. There was also an antique store on the first and second stories which I would frequent often. I still have a few treasured books and some furniture purchased there in the early 90's. I like to think of the time I spent browsing the east second floor area - part of which is now our little studio loft space! In 2000 the space was converted to a number of unique condominiums and small businesses. There was great effort put into maintaining the character of the space and retaining as much of the original structure while also introducing contemporary details of quality and integrity.
