Ballycurrin House stands on the site of the ruins of 12th Century Ballycurrin Castle, where the Lynch family, who ruled Galway for 600 years, lived. In the 1921 Troubles, the house was burned to the ground and has been restored, so guest can now enjoy the relaxed, refined and sometime rustic atmosphere of this 18th century house. If you are looking for tranquil and peaceful holidays, Ballycurrin is your place. The space Step into old school living and charm, and take a break from the modern world. This stately, 3 levels house has a beautiful drawing and living rooms with large Georgian windows which look out to the grounds. The sweeping staircase leads up to 3 ensuite bedrooms. The master bedroom has views over the stunning lake - Lough Corrib. There is fully equipped kitchen in the basement, which makes it ideal for families or groups to enjoy a self catered break. An extra space for 2 more people (8 in total) can be arranged with additional cost. Ballycurrin house is an idyllic setting for a relaxing break for families or groups of friends. The simple grandeur of the house & grounds make it a unique stay whilst having all the practical necessities for a self catered stay. The grounds of Ballycurrin House are home to the ruins of the castle, as well as 3 guest cottages: Lynch's Cottage, The Nest and Lake House which makes it perfect for a reunion break. If you would like to enquire about booking the cottages please get in touch. You’ll have full privacy in this 3 bedroom mansion. The house sleeps 6 (with possibility to accommodate 8), so it is ideal for families or groups looking for a relaxing & tranquil stay. There is a car parking space directly outside the property. We have our own pier, which can be used for launching boats, kayaks ( possibility to rent kayaks on site) swimming. It is an older property in rural Mayo so adjust your expectations accordingly. We are 15 minutes drive from the nearest town, so a car is recommended. Guest access There are tree levels in the house: the kitchen is in the basement accessible through staircase; library and leaving room on the ground floor and 3 bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor accessible by wide staircase. Other things to note There are many walking and cycling trails in the area just a few minutes drive away from the property. Please note, the house is close to the lake and surrounded by trees, so occasional communing with nature is unavoidable.
