Finca Heimatlos is an eco-lodge and sustainable farming project based on 50 hectares (123.5 acres) of pristine land right at the edge of the Amazon rainforest. Located near the small town of Canelos in Ecuador, the lodge lies at a distance of 27 km to Puyo, 88 km to Baños, and 277 km to Quito. The peaceful lodge, with its extraordinary rainforest views, is an ideal place to enjoy and explore the unique natural habitats of the Amazon. You can have tours with us to discover the Amazon. The space Our guesthouse is a tropical-style building constructed out of local hardwoods. It accommodates 20+ people in nine cozy rooms, all of them with a spectacular jungle view. Six of the rooms have private bathrooms (one is handicap accessible), while three have shared bathrooms. Water is filtered from our own spring and heated via our solar panels. Some rooms can be provided with a small fridge on request. The guesthouse also features a big terrace with a panoramic view, suitable for relaxation and exercise. Our small restaurant provides meals and drinks throughout the day. Accommodation includes breakfast, but you can also book at a fixed price with all meals included. Outdoors, nature abounds. We are virtually inside the jungle – pristine primary rainforest lies a mere 500 meters away. This part of Ecuador boasts some of the world’s greatest biodiversity. A multitude of birds, insects (especially butterflies), fungi, frogs, and some other small animals can be observed directly on the property. You can also explore the property through our short hiking trails into the jungle – we even have a small waterfall where you can bathe. A single walk can take hours as there is so much to see! To get further out, you can visit the nearby town of Puyo, where jungle tours offer the chance to observe larger animals such as monkeys and caimans. There’s a permanent moth wall for studying moth biodiversity at night. Finca Heimatlos is an eco-farm that will cultivate organic vegetables and fruit trees based on the principles of permaculture and traditional indigenous methods of farming without impact on the environment. We are also in the process of establishing a small research station for the study of insect and fungi diversity – So far, two eminent mycologists have already come to work on extended research projects, and the property manager is a knowledgeable naturalist. This is a perfect place for anybody who is interested in nature – students, scientists, biophiles, and guests who just want to relax and get away from it all for a few days while experiencing the wonders of the tropical rainforest.
