Beyt El Teta (Grandma's House)
An authentic Lebanese house, built more than 100 years ago, "Beyt El Teta" or "Grandma's House", welcomes guests from all over the world. At the heart of the picturesque village Barouk, Beyt El Teta offers a splendid getaway within walking distance to the Chouf Reserve, market and amusement park. It's 10 to 15 min drive away from Chouf Touristic sites, like Beiteddine and Der El Qamar. Beyt El Teta also offers its guests an authentic locally-sourced Lebanese breakfast. The space "Beyt El Teta " Story: "We're going to Beyt el teta (Grandma's house)" was always a line that promised a good time. Whether it was summer drinks and sandwiches on the balcony or roasted chestnuts and grilled potatoes on the stove in winter, it was a heartwarming treat. Teta Mounira always insisted you get your full of goodies, and asking for a small sandwich inevitably guaranteed you an extended feast. Teta was a very generous woman, and painstakingly neat and tidy. She woke up with the dawn every morning to sweep the floors and balconies and water her flowers. Then it was her own personal treat to drink matté, have breakfast, and excitedly wait for the next visitor to knock her door. Those visitors were often us, her little grandchildren, with eyes beaming with adventure and mischief. We'd climb on the old fig tree in the backyard, play hide and seek with other kids in the front yard, or go on a stroll with her to the nearby "souk" or old market to buy food for dinner. Teta left our world more than a year ago, but every time we pull up her driveway, we smile at the memory of her excitedly waiting by the long front windows to greet us, just like she always did.
