Cocoloche / Oceanfront Family Compound

Spectacular and unique, Cocoloche is an off-the-grid, exquisitely designed, private nature preserve. Created by Edwina von Gal, park designer for Panama’s Biomuseo, and co-founder of the Azuero Earth Project, as a living experiment in stylish sustainable living. 5 private casitas, common cooking/living area, organic kitchen garden, laundry, sunset pavilion, massage/yoga deck, 2 beaches, access to extensive hiking/nature trails. Walk to Playa Venao surf beach for rentals, lessons, restaurants. The space Ideal for nature lovers, yoga and meditation, retreats, workshops and families, Cocoloche is off the grid and very close to nature. Not the place for people who are afraid of nature and wildlife! Created with collaborators Cresolus, Fernando Santangelo and John-Paul Philippe, each Casita is an experiment in good design with sustainable materials, sited for total privacy and to take advantage of spectacular views. Every detail is designed to bring the guest a close encounter with the extraordinary life and beauty of the place in a luxurious fashion. The showers and bathrooms are open air. The woodwork and metal details: doors, windows, and most of the furniture, were made on site with local craftsmen. There is no Air Conditioning but all spaces have fans and excellent air circulation. Caracucha and Jardin casitas do not have screens but their beds are equipped with netting. Although there are almost never any biting insects in the dry season (mid Dec-April) large bugs like moths and crickets are attracted to reading lamps. Multiple comfortable places for relaxing and reading with ample couches, chairs and hammocks, plus desks for writing and drawing. Guest access - Direct access to two beaches: one public, seldom busy, white sand/placid blue water, coral. The other, totally private, a bit wild, black stones and tide pools. - 5.5 H (12 acre) nature preserve, monkeys and birds, plus special access to 200 acre preserve with extensive trail system - Walking distance to surf beach, board rentals, and restaurants at Playa Venao - Private white sand beach entrance with shower, storage shed and 2 kayaks -Access open to all parts of the compound except woodshop/solar power center and owners storage areas. Other things to note The closest food shopping is in Pedasi, a half hour drive. Julie can usually order organic vegetables in advance. Local eggs, fresh fish and meats can also be arranged. We recommend shopping before arrival in Pedasi or, better, Chitre. A list of typical staples is available. Please help trash management on the Azuero: bring your purchases in reusable shopping bags or cardboard cartons. Please do not bring bottled water. We provide. We have two kayaks (a single and a double, and good assortment of snorkeling gear, plus beach umbrellas and chairs. There is a fresh water shower at the beach gate. The sun is extremely strong. We provide some but recommend you come well prepared with sunblock, hats, and rash guard shirts for snorkeling.
