Blue Monkey Beach Cottage on Wasini Island

The owners' love for nature clearly shows in the eco-conscious construction of the cottage with local material. Special care has been taken to leave the environment as untouched as possible and wild bush covers the rocky compound. The space A solar installation caters for lighting. Phones and cameras can be charged 24/7 but not high-energy consuming devices such as electric cooler boxes. Since the island has no ground water, its inhabitants and visitors have to rely entirely on rainwater collected in cisterns. Therefore, the cottage is equipped with a water saving bucket shower and an eco-urine toilet. An additional private flush toilet (using sea water) is in a nearby bathhouse. Guest access Blue Monkey Beach Cottages have a private sand beach on the cliffs, a large tidal pool, and a wooden jetty to access the sea. A smaller traditional Arab dhow is available for private sailing trips and snorkeling/diving/dolphin watching excursions. Egrets and storks feeding in the intertidal zone can be watched from the comfort of chairs set in the shade of a Pod Mahogany tree, and with a bit of good luck a school of resident humpback dolphins can be spotted playing around with their befriended bottlenose dolphins. A multitude of birds and butterflies roam about the flowers and fruits of the garden which are also an attraction for Blue Monkeys. Other things to note Wasini is a coral island, that is at low tide, swimming/rubber shoes are very useful to walk in the intertidal zone. You can always refresh in our tidal pook, and at high tide, you can swim off directly from our private jetty. Please also consider that Wifi is only available intermittently and on request. Internet access with smartphones works best with a Safaricom SIM-card which can be procured free of charge in any of the many Safaricom outlets on the mainland.
