On the west of this charming local island lies a peaceful lagoon and two harbours where local fishermen are often seen. On the east, you will find a beautiful beach. And on the main street of the island, there are local shops, restaurants and cafes. If you’re lucky, you might even catch an exciting game in play at the football field, a sport the locals love! GETTING AROUND ON THE ISLAND --------------------------------------------- Mahibadhoo measures just 2.4km (1.5 miles) long and 1.2km (0.75 miles) wide, which makes getting around extremely easy. An easy jog around the island takes 20 minutes and it takes only about 5 minutes on foot from Noovilu Suites to the main streets. More importantly for visitors, Mahibadhoo is very well-provisioned with basic services within easy reach. These include ATMs, banks, telecommunications shops, convenience stores and even medical facilities including a hospital and three well-stocked medical pharmacies. PEOPLE AND THE CULTURE ----------------------------------- Approximately 2,000 people live on Mahibadhoo and their sources of livelihood include fishing, construction, boat building, carpentry, handicraft and tourism. A vast majority of the local young men work in nearby tourist resorts. Maldivian people are generally very warm and friendly. On the island and at the guesthouse, it is a close-knit community where guests are made to feel welcomed and at home. There are, however, a few local customs and religious practices that non-locals are asked to respect. PRE-ARRIVAL ---------------- After you have booked your flights and your stay with us, please give us with your flight details (if you haven’t already) so that we can prepare to make your arrival and departure as seamless as possible. BOAT TRANSFER TO OUR ISLAND ------------------------------------------ The best way to come Mahibadhoo is by public speedboat. PUBLIC SPEEDBOAT (MALE-MAHIBADHOO-MALE) - The public speedboat departs from Jetty No. 1 or 6 in Male city. - The ride is around 1.5hours and the cost is US$45-55 per person per way - Please check with us for the speedboat schedule. Public Speedboat Transfer Schedule: Male-Mahibadhoo, 10.30am and 4.00pm daily (except Friday only 10am timing) Mahibadhoo-Male, 07.00am and 2.30pm daily PRIVATE SPEEDBOAT - This can be arranged accordingly to your arrival schedule. - The speedboat will pick you up directly from the airport. - The ride is around 1 hour and the cost around US$1200 per boat per way (max. 20pax per boat). Islam is the official religion in Maldives. We would like to highlight the following information to respect of our religion & culture on local islands where we live in:- Forbidden Items: As Islam is the official religion in the Maldives, alcohol, drugs, dogs or pork meat are forbidden on local and inhabited islands such as our island, Mahibadhoo. Visitors are also not allowed to bring these items along with them to our island. Attire: When walking around the island, do dress appropriately. For men, T-shirt and surf shorts are ok. For women, to cover your shoulders and shorts/dress/skirts that are slightly above knee and longer. For swimwear and bikinis, it's allowed within the bikini beach area.
