Other things to note Islam is the official religion in Maldives. We would like to highlight the following information to respect of our religion & culture on local islands where we live in:- Forbidden Items: As Islam is the official religion in the Maldives, alcohol, drugs, dogs or pork meat are forbidden on local and inhabited islands such as our island, Mahibadhoo. Visitors are also not allowed to bring these items along with them to our island. Attire: When walking around the island, do dress appropriately. For men, T-shirt and surf shorts are ok. For women, to cover your shoulders and shorts/dress/skirts that are slightly above knee and longer. For swimwear and bikinis, it's allowed within the bikini/tourist beach area which is only a few minutes' walk from our guesthouse.
