The cottage is situated on a farm in Laikipia, 32km from Nanyuki. It is near Borana and Ngare Ndare with stunning panoramic views of Mt. Kenya. It has large terraces providing comfy outdoor lounge areas. The farm is rich in bird species. Perfect getaway to relax in a beautiful landscape with a wild feel. It is a sustainable home designed to minimize your footprint on the environment with solar panels and rain water collection. Our cottage won the 2023 Airbnb Africa Award for Sustainability. The space The cottage has a large dining room/open kitchen area. You can also dine outside on the main terrace which has a barbecue and a pizza oven. Our Chef will welcome you and prepare your meals to make your stay even more relaxing. There is a beautiful living room equipped with a home theater. Some great classic movies are available. The two front large ensuite bedrooms have each a fireplace and a big terrace. One of the front bedrooms is detached but next to the main house. Each front bedroom has a double bed and a single bed. In the back, there are two additional bedrooms sharing a bathroom. One bedroom has a large bunker bed. The other has a kind-size bed and is equipped with a large smart TV. Many activities are available in and around the farm. There is a tennis court. For tennis lovers, please bring your own tennis raquettes and balls. There is also a table tennis table (raquettes and balls provided) on one of the terraces, and a pétanque field (balls provided) in the front garden. On the main terrace, there is a BBQ and a new gas pizza oven! The pizza oven can also be used to roast and bake. There are trails on the hill that give you access to a beautiful picnic spot where you can enjoy your sundowner. Guest access Guests have access to the entire farm. Other things to note - Electricity is generated from solar panels, and incase of cloud cover during the day or extensive use of the electrical power, the solar system may shut down. In such a case, a back-up generator will be operated. - Together with the open fire places there are kerosene lamps that provide a romantic atmosphere. - There is a home theatre which you can enjoy in the evenings. Some classic and kids movies are available. But you can also bring your own movies on a Dvd or flash disc. No more than 4hours a day. - Water is collected from the roof and 3 solar water heaters provide the hot water to the three bathrooms. In case of cloud cover, there are two water heater boosters for the main bathroom and back bathroom. Coordinate with the staff for the booster to be operated one hour before you need the hot water. - The staff is there to make your stay most enjoyable. Kindly let them know when you need them. - Water and energy resources must be wisely used to be sustained. - The farm is close to a small trading centre where you can find basic stuff. There is a small supermarket in Timau. Otherwise, big shoppings are to be done in Nanyuki. - Bring your own firewood or ask the staff to organize some for you before you arrive. - Bring own coffee, sugar and cooking oil as we cannot foresee how much of these you require. - A 4X4 is required when it rains. - It is about 1hr drive from Nanyuki to get to the cottage. - It is 3km to Ngare Ndare forest.
