Muteleu Family's Traditional Maasai Village
Welcome to Maasai land where we love and respect nature. This eco-camp was built by the local community and accommodates up to 16 people. Guests sleep in a 2-person manyatta (mud hut) modified to include a private toilet and shower in the back. Our very large Muteleu family (18 sons & daughters) lives nearby with our herd of cattle, goats & sheep. We welcome you to experience our culture and hospitality. We offer accommodation in traditional Maasai mud huts that have been slightly modified with modern amenities like flush toilets, showers, and elevated ceilings so one can stand upright inside the hut. Guests are welcome to explore the village including the restaurant, the reception area, and your individual hut. The ranch is walkable too but we recommend taking a guide so you don't get lost. The Muteleu Family is a welcoming, large extended community. We can interact with our guests as little or as much as they desire. Guests are most welcome to help us with chores like milking the cattle & goats when in season. We can keep you company around the bonfire at night with singing and dancing or leave you alone to star gaze under the southern cross and orion constellations. We are a neighborhood of Maasai tribesmen who farm goats, cows and sheep. We co-exist peacefully with the wild giraffe, wildebeest, ostrich, buffalo, birds, warthogs, and zebra. We are a pastoralist community living in a semi-arid part of Kenya so we're often moving with our cows to greener rangelands when the rains fail. The village is 2 kilometers from the tarmac road and 2.5 kilometers from the bus stop. Public buses going to Loitokitok can drop guests at the Merrueshi bus stop just before reaching the Simba cement factory. We generally walk everywhere we need to go. If in a hurry then motorbike taxis are also available.
